Had a couple visitors show up yesterday morning and still hanging around today. This is the first time I seen any in person. I live along the Ohio River as far south in Illinois as you can go, and I had heard of them being in the region in recent summers. I sent a picture to my father-in-law who lives about 30 minutes south of me and he responded with a picture of two that were sitting on his pond.

I have heard of those, they sure are neat looking birds. The wife saw them in GA, near Savannah. Don't think we get them in WI.

The skin sticks really tight to the meat. They are about on par with ring neck for eating. They are thick here in summer. More aggressive than wood ducks and they dominate the prime nesting cavities, displacing native wood ducks. They are the dumbest of the ducks.

These are no bigger than the domestic ducks we have. They have long legs and necks. They've been here 3 days now, but I don't have a box or anything they could nest in unfortunately

I think they taste about 10 times better than a mallard, Whitecliffs is the first person I have ever heard that didn't like eating them

I will shoot 6 black bellies every time before I would shoot a mallard or teal. They are my favorite duck to eat. The legs are the best part!

Gotta live up to the nickname...

We got a lot of them here! They are starting to be a nuisance! I heard, they might not put a limit on them during duck season!
