Coons were high dollar a good 30 inch one would fetch 50 bucks

I worked crazy long ĥours on the dock of fairrbank farms

12 hour days were the usual, at crazy weird hours.

I got chicken wings for free back the ( weird huh?)

I built 100 stone cubby thru the spring and summer,

Started baiting the cubby one a week come Augest

I set 100 220s the 3rd week of October on opening day

That Sunday morning was crazy, first check and a nitemare !

79 coons and 11 grinners....(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) , I didn't expect that

Pulled the traps on Monday after 40 more coons

Almost quit my job to continue but held fast,

Never baited that many traps again

90 critters out of 100 traps. Amazing

I was in high school remember getting a 40 dollar average on 100 coons I caught not counting the 70 buck reds and all else and kids wondered how I had money

Feed em for 3 months, they will be there

That logic doesn't always work with women.

I did the same thing. Prebaited to get a leg up on all the competition. The first few day catches were staggering.

I was not walking yet not born tell May in 80.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that 80+ % of the members here have work boots older than that.

I graduated high school in '80.

Sold alot of coon 35.00 to 60.00 in the winter of 78-79.probably had 6 to 8 different buyers come during the week.

Yep, in those days they did

Five of us, 3 cousins and a pair not related, pooled our fox into sort of a coop back then. We brought our fox to one house and had 5 local buyers come and give a bid for all. High bidder was called back and he went through the individual fox in each of the 5 lots and gave his offer. Nobody ever turned their bid down! We did this type of selling for about 7-8 years.

$40 in 1980 is equal to about $148 today and $70 equal to $208 today.

I remember the summer of '80 as the hottest one ive ever seen, over 100 degree's for two weeks straight, no clue what the heat index would of been, dry , tree's dying, etc. Helped my grand father water his garden with a bucket and a metal dipper, each plant got a dipper of water a day ,lol.

I remember it and I was walking but I was not trapping yet I think I started kindergarten August of 83

I remember a recession my parents doing thigs like buying the cheaper canned ham and slicing it for sandwiches and going to the community clinic in the village hall for immunizations before going to school.
lined up half the kids in town to pop them in the arm.
