Only thing about the cell phone I like is the camera. Wish I had one on all of my adventures years ago. The rest nada , except in an emergency . I don't have personal computer. My cell phone is how I'm on this site. I also use it for ordering all kinds of stuff I can't find at local stores. Weather, calendar, alarm clock. I find all kinds of uses for one. Cheap and a thousand uses. Probably costs me $20 a month.

I’ll bet every generation has said something similar for decades. And it’s true of every generation. Folks of all ages have no respect or common decency anymore. Everyone of the generations has good folks and entitled whiny folks who think everyone owes them something just because they show up. I’m sure glad I hang out with the respectable and decent folks.

I think what Bfflobo was referring to is the phenomena of decency that for the most part has existed for millennia. Even on the regular telephone you speak to others with some modicum of respect.... but with texting, social media and all of that there seems to be a new boldness of disrespect. Lots of folks seem to go out of their way to make snide, hurtful and unclassy remarks about others.

Sometimes, well a lot of the times… But, let us remember that when you communicate face to face you pick up on tone, body language and the such. You don’t always get to notice those things when communicating in writing. But yeah, people aren’t as worried about offending someone when they are safe behind a keyboard.

Used to be, when you grew up, you learned social norms. There were consequences, often physical for ignoring them. Enforced by parents, teachers, classmates, older kids, or any adult in the area. If I would have went to high school dressed like a furry, you would have gotten beaten up, with the teacher's tacit approval. In that era, no parents would let there kids dress like that. I remember fights in school, fights at keg parties, the cops were never called. It was assumed to be part of growing up and learning how to conduct yourself. There was a code you tried to follow, it basically was: be loyal to your friends, don't be a snitch and handle your own problems, and don't be a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). Anyone who grew up before smart phones knows exactly what I am talking about.
Now with social media, you can say whatever you want about anyone, without any real fear of getting punched in the mouth or having to back up your words. That is not a good thing, and I fully realize there is no putting the genie back in the bottle. It is the reality of today.

Dopamine and serotonin are some strong drugs that our bodies produce when we do something that gives us pleasure. We used to just have a cup of tea or listen to some music or read a good book, hug a grandchild and we would get a little happy drug. Now, constant use, exposure and need to be tied to the cell phone has produced drug addicts of just about all. ( I am not one of them ) Once the need is there, the need for more is there and the lack of it causes depression of varying degrees.
As I understand? A cell phone picture has incripted in it, time, date and GPS location. I do not want my grandchild, home or coyote/cat catch location in a picture for someone to decode. Any picture of mine that you see on the internet will be taken with a camera and down loaded to my computer.
Paranoid? You darn right! That phone you are tied to is tracking your every move if someone is interested. Even if it is just sitting on the counter, it is listening.

20 bucks a month??? Please teach me.
$59 Dollar store phone. Track phone card. Everything rolls over. Bought a one year activation for $100, years ago. Now I just add minutes/data when I need it. I'm not on my phone all day watching videos or anything so it lasts a long time.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
