Just got back from a sale and cattle is no longer affordable for replacement cattle, beef prices will be extreme and it going to get worse Im afraid right now good deal if your selling but not sure if you sell anything how you will get back in the game. Best stock up now its going to get crazy high for beef then push the price up on other meat. Plan on putting some venison or elk in the freezer this fall.

I'm seeing more people getting out locally than getting in. Most of the 10-20 Cow spreads are gone, pastures tilled or trees planted for deer cover. The only way we have high cattle numbers again long term is if we start turning forestry land into pasture.

I know of some young kids looking to invest in steers to raise and sell. My buddy’s buying some to raise for himself and a few others just for meat.
Then there’s the drought out west to deal with, gotta feed them. We’re OK around here this year, but a lot of our feed will go west again this year.

A friend of mine had a Leppy calf he sold at the sale a month ago. It sold for $1100. Another neighbor sold one a week ago for $900. I can't believe how high they are around here

The big cattle ranchers and small ones are getting out of the business. It will take people not buying beef to get some relieve and pressure off the markets to drop prices.
Even if a guy goes out and buys and calf to raise to butcher the price for that meat doesn't change the price that much. Even if you butcher the beef yourself cost is still very high.
Eating out is getting ridiculous high price due to meat prices. I see these businesses closing up all over because no one can even afford to eat at a fast food joint.

Neighbor sold 2 Angus/Holstein calves for $1100 each 2 weeks ago. Four years before he was throwing them in the dead pile.

And four years from now he probably will again. Markets are never stable.

It's going to get worse.i was talking to a guy that owns a sale barn and he said a year from now you won't be able to afford beef.prices around here are crazy fats are around 2.30 to 2.40lb live weight.feeders are hoovering around 3.30's and bottle calves are 1,000 bucks and on up.corn is around 3.80 a bushel should be a good profit but like mentioned above I would hate to go out and have to buy some right now for replacements.hamburger is around 6.50 to a little over 7.00 dollars a lb not quite as bad when covid hit it was 10.00lb

My customers I sell beef to don't want heart, tounge or liver, I take them all.

I think they're putting pen to paper with GB soon. With energy prices decreasing one would think the cost of production would decrease with it, but I'm not a cattlemen. Seems more should be getting in the business than out.

Yep, I'm not cattle man either but guessing this will raise demand?

I agree!!! Just like oil to high or to low the seller and buyer all need a bone throw their way every now and then. A steady market for long periods will never happen with supply and demand ups and downs.

I wonder what has pushed the price so high. Is it being done to shut down the beef market. The climate change crew want cattle gone.

Lack of supply, the screw worm and boarder shut down, I think it still is, until box beef drops this will keep happening as cheap corn beef producers will continue to raise them it’s the mindset of I’ll walk the corn off my farm.
