When I was a kid we returned glass bottles to stores and recycled cans. We also called the repair man to fix TV's and other appliances. Today we throw glass out and also throw out TV's and appliances and just replace them as soon as the ones we have break. Have we really gone green?

Nothing about green, anything is about the environment. Its about money and control period.

When I started mechanic'n, we rebuilt everything.

Alt bad, put diodes and brushes in it.
Starter bad, brushes and a solenoid
Radiator or heater core leaking, pull it put and solder it.

Now just replace.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Even now, we still turn rotors if good enough instead of replacing.

Nothing is made to last anymore. Nothing green about our disposable society. Your parents had a phone that was attached to the wall and lasted forever. We have phones that get thrown away in two years.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

understand it has NOTHING to do with being good for the environment.

it is about the perception of being green while marketing you lesser products , more stuff and a constant change of junk that breaks.

saw an actual comparion , old fridge vs new , the new fridge draws less current right , they put both on a meter to measure current draw but added the over a time period , they were loaded with the same cases of pop , they were in the same room , and they were both monitored for 24 hours.

so the same draw down thermal load , they are maintaining the same temp , and while the old fridge looks bad coming out of the gait in the first hour over 24 hours it's shorter run time with a bigger motor and compressor it ran less.

the new fridge looks good using a little power but it runs a lot longer

in the end the power consumption to do the same exact thing for 24 hours was withing a few watts of each other not enough difference to make up for the trip to the store in a years time in energy savings.

the old fridge has worked 50 years , the new one will be lucky to still be running in 10

it is one of those shuffle the cards around on the table games to make it look like something is being done when all that is really being done is making money by forcing change in the economy.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Cost more to fix electronic than to replace them.
