Thanks for enlightening me. Assuming the canadian govt does care how much smoke comes across the border makes it slightly more bearable. You have got to be a city slicker.

Sounds like you Midwesters are experiencing what we true westers do every summer, except our smoke is from local fires, none of this imported crap

At least your fires get put out. Thanks for enlightening me. Assuming the canadian govt does care how much smoke comes across the border makes it slightly more bearable. You have got to be a city slicker. LOL. Not even close.

Ounce of prevention.....

Ounce of prevention..... I don’t know if you’re speaking to the westerners or the Canadians here, but either way it’s a moot point. Michigan has like 20 million acres of forest, none of it really being “that remote” other than the upper peninsula . Saskatchewan has 100 million acres of forest, think a dozen UP’s, much of it totally remote, without road access, far, far from infrastructure. Etc etc Michigan also has ten times the population making being proactive so to speak a bit easier as opposed to somewhere where there is literally 100’s and 100’s and 100’s of miles of vast wilderness without even a road. As of now, basically half of the UP’s total forest area has been lost to fire in SK this year. P.S. We appreciate the help we’ve had from fire-fighters from various states that have helped in Canada many times over the years. I think that arrangement of helping each other with fire as we’ve always done is a better one than playing politics and blaming this or that.

This is non stop. We need more tariffs on Canada. I think this is us being retaliatory. But for real, I feel for you, being smoked out sucks. It won’t be over soon I’m afraid.

How do al these fires get started? I’d guess lightning strikes is #1. Trains throwing a spark. Even heard a story about a 80 year old camp trash pile with bottles in it starting a fire. Apparently a tree fell, so the sun was able to hit the trash pile and a bottle magnified the sun starting fire. Camp fires, cars, smokie treats. Lots of ways they get started.

True, there are many ways they start. ATV’s can even start them if it’s real dry. I wouldn’t let my kid move his bear bait to a dry muskeg swamp with lots of high dead grass for this exact reason.
