Interesting. About 10 years or so ago, one of the TV stations submitted a list of 100 of the most influential people in America. They asked viewers to vote each week. Each week, based on the voting, they narrowed the field down after the first week to 50, the next week to 25, the next week to 10, the next week to 5. Finally they voted for the most most outstanding American from those last 5. I recall some of the finalists were Washington, Lincoln, Reagan, Franklin, and one other I don't recall. The winner was Lincoln.

And words are important. Influential does not necessarily equate to outstanding. And neither necessarily implies good. Genghis Khan was both influential and outstanding. Good is up for debate.

Most surveys still rank Wilson and teddy Roosevelt as the best presidents despite being the two worst until recently

Average person attends one American History class in 9th grade public school and forms their opinion around it. Guess knowledge doesn't count unless it's obtained from a college eh?

Of course people can gain knowledge from sources other than college. Watching some guy on YouTube may give a person knowledge--but that's all he gets, knowledge of some guy doing a video on YouTube. The viewer gains no expertise. The viewer gains no deep understanding of the subject matter. YouTube is not "research" and it is not an education. Same for TikTok, etc.

I know plenty of people who are experts in subjects and they never took a class on them. They however spent years studying the subjects--including, brace yourselves, reading actual books.

Okay then bottom fee..., coucilor, how many books, articles, and research do you do?

And if you care to ask, son of an english major high school librarian who was reading by kindergarten as was my two brothers. All three of us in advanced placement throughout k-12. So it's true reading is fundamental. BTW as a son of the south of my generation I and all of my peers fought and refought the recent unpleasantness ad infinitim from childhood on. Shelby Foote was not an abberation as most all southerners of a certain age know their history.

And if you had bothered to watch rather than knee jerk you could see sources cited for you or any other to go read for yourself.

YouTube isn't research? It helped me fix some things around my house. It helped me with trapping. It helped in a bunch of ways. It absolutely is a good tool if you skip around the crap that's on it. There's lot of great content that can teach people whatever they want to learn.

About Lincoln? I just read one called How the Best Did It: Leadership Lessons from Our Top Presidents. Not a history book per se but interesting. It was assigned reading for one of my kids in college--I saw it laying on a counter at the house and read it. Not exactly heavy academic reading.

But, I am not posting YouTube videos on Tman claiming to have cracked some historical case.

As for the rest of your post, I had to read it three times. I think you are trying to claim some expertise because your mother was an English major and a librarian. She would be disappointed that you misspelled "aberration." And, "counselor" or "councilor".

She would, indeed. My point, if you're really that obtuse, is that one video is not the extent of what I know of the despot Lincoln. It does however, rather graphically make the case I and many others through the generations have been trying to make.

I didn't say I agreed with the end result. Just remembered the poll that was taken back then.

I tried watching it and I couldn’t get past the language.. I get a few cuss words every now and then,, but the constant fbombs make it unwatchable for me.

Stand by your principles, Stand by your guns, and victory complete and permanent is sure at last.

I never made it that far either for the same reason. It's sad that there are some people who prefer it that way.

I have watched part of a few f-bomb experts. I think they use this word to make sure you really believe what they are saying. Tell the story and let the listener decide if he believes it. The f-bombs don't make it true.

I've always been of the opinion that people who use a lot of f-bombs do it because they are angry people. If they need to use it to prove a point, they aren't very articulate and probably not worth listening to anyway.

It's his shtick.
He toned it down some years back, and I guess views suffered, so turned it to 11.
Also known as the Rageholic, so you sort of expect a profanity laced rant.

Plus, his primary audience was death metal, gamer crowd to.start, and later began taking a political turn.

Degree in political science, has authored a few books, although novels, but I suspect it's his act that pays the bills.

As far as BC's " read a book " comment, are you saying books aren't biased?
If you watched the vid, he mentions and shows some of the books he used preparing for this vid.
Some were Lincoln is the devil and some had him a saint.

As it usually happens, truth is often somewhere in the middle.

I read. A lot. But watch a few videos too,esp when they reference and show first person sources.
As this one does. Also, provides jumping off point for farther research, if one is so.inclined.
