Here in Idaho. The Lava Wind Project approved last December by the Biden Administration's Bureau of Land Management would have constructed 231 wind turbines on over 57 thousand acres in Southern Idaho's BLM lands. Thankfully, common sense took over and the Trump Administration stopped this project. In Idaho Falls where I live, the hillsides are overwhelmed with these eyesores. To add salt to the wounds, none of the little energy they produce goes into Idaho. It all goes to California.

Cali. is a good place for it

I'd much sooner drive past a nuke plant on ten acres than miles and miles of those ugly things.

And I’d rather look at those windmills than to have to live next to anywhere they decide to store the toxic radioactive waste pilled up by that 10 ac plant. I will cede that massive corporate wind farms may not be the ideal way to utilize and harvest renewable wind derived energy.

We have wind turbines not to far from where I live and that electricity goes to Florida I don't understand why the electricity goes to a different state then where the turbines are located.

Read an article on the net yesterday that was saying that California was the only state in the union that could separate and stay a float by it's self.

I hardly believe that to be possible in any degree with what they have to have from other states to get buy and also all the funding they still receive from the government to function.

I left a note saying this article compares to the Sci-Fi news being spewed about the new inbound boulder being an Alien attack !!

If they can’t recoup the energy it takes to make them what’s the point then? If it’s a losing proposition from day 1 the rest is going through the motions of any gains for the environment. All dog and pony show no real gains really.

Politician family members in DC own the facilities that manufacture the components. The smallest turbines take 50 gallons of oil (gasp) to lubricate. Up to 300 gallons for larger turbines and they all leak eventually

Actually a 1000 MW would be a fair amount of power. Probably don't need this much power in idaho.

All wind farm projects are taxpayer funded. That’s the part that really wizzes me off.

The only way wind farms make sense is for the tax credits (not tax deductions) that they create for big corporation like General Electric. They do not pencil-out ecomonically, they depreciate and become useless long before they pay for themselves. Huge scam on the taxpayers.

Most of idaho gets it electric power from hydroelectric which the taxpayers likely funded. frown

All the posts on this thread, seem to point to the same corrupt dictator , For respect of the administration of this site , I'll not name names .
Just give the information , remember this land was taken over by the government just to put in a wind farm.

along the mountain next to Mt. Storm WV there are hundreds of them, about half of them do not spin at all. just a waste of millions of dollars. They never repair or remove them.

We need more energy. In Oklahoma, for example, companies are trying to build data centers and those data centers consume a lot of energy. Our electric providers do not have enough juice.

I don't love the look of wind farms and definitely don't love the tax credits, but, again, we need more energy.

Manitoba Hydro learned their lesson building a couple wind farms. Won’t be doing that again, but we’ll buy a bit of power during peaks to help offset the load from a private entity……if they ever decide to go ahead with the project…..lol
Good time to scrap it if they haven’t already invested too much.

I read sone of the article; lots of accounting mumbo-jumbo. The simple fact is; if they are economical, they wouldn't need subsidies.

There was ZERO bids

Wind farms don’t work without subsidies

If farming and gas production were economical then they shouldn't need subsidies either, lol.

We are not being very conservative today. Let the free market supply it at free market prices; not the Federal government so some consumers get electricity at subsidized prices. frown

Its funny how the focus has changed to power for data centers and away from the endless line of electric cars. Maybe that plan got scrapped too, but I doubt it.

This country is one big subsidized economy. Fortunately the U.S. is not socialist .

My friend Don Greider had 106 patents in just green energy, studied wind turbines and thought they were worse than worthless. Without government subsidies, they never give a decent rate of return. They are also terrible for the environment.

Doesn’t seem to be a problem for many of you that it takes tax payer subsidies to keep ethical in production. Only seems to matter who getting them.

I have a friend with a farm that is divided by a railroad. The smaller side is leased to a solar company. They pay much more per acre than the farmer who leases the other side.

Wind is not sustainable even with subsidies if they factor in environmental impacts and disposal.

Just not viable long term with current technology being used.

Along with all the other problems, big rub with wind and solar is the line loss. Wind blows and sun shines in low population areas........so amount of power that finally arrives at far off population centers is far less than what started at windy end. Like a bucket with a hole in it. If you have to carry it very far, you won't get there with much. Plus wind and sun are intermitant........so supplement vs. primary. Only green source that ever made sense to me is hydroelectric. Gravity works......you just have to find a way to accumulate enough water to be feasible. Missouri's Osage river reservoirs might do better if they were to build a few hundred thousand 10 to 20 acre retention lakes in the upper watershed. Keep them full, only draw down when you need make up water. Power and recreation. To me, makes more sense than the pump back features that never get used.
