Black rubber roofing on a sunny day in Ohio is so hot gloves aren't enough nor are one pair of jeans if you are on your knees doing a seam or flashing a roof curb. I can't imagine how hot the desert southwest sun would be on a black rubber roof. The steel needs protected. Black is as good a color as any and probably better than most.

Again I'm in South Texas right now on a all meal barge the deck is usually 140° plus the winches...that are black are a bit more ..... Just wear some gloves....

Also the whole black being the best color....yeahhh not quite ideally if you want something protected and coated and not need to redo it constantly you'd go with lighter colors because they don't retain heat as much... Longer and more something retains heat the more rapidly the material tends to break down ... Not really anything super revolutionary there ... Think hold heat more and longer then other thing.. will probably break down quicker.
