The wife's birthday is tomorrow Friday I was in town yesterday and picked up a dozen roses and a card.when she seen the flowers her comment was i told you not to get me flowers but she got a vase down put them in it and was admiring how nice they looked.

Should have told her they were for someone else for a more lively reaction.

No.

I gave up asking. I just get her flowers. They always end up in a vase, usually at her office.

Nah, you won. Better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

Mine actually gets mad when I being home flowers thinks its a waste of money. So I get her David Austin rose catalog out and order whatever is on the dog eared pages. Then plant them in the yard and they last for years and some have been over a decade and been moved properties.

Women frequently say what they think people want to hear/society looks favorable on and that may not actually be what they want.

All the girls say they want the nice stable though full provider But chase the bad boys that treat them like crap and often throwing a good marriage away in the process chasing the butterfly's and validation. I beter stop there before I trigger one of our lady members.

Anyway the example above is one of my work arounds. She still gets flowers that are more expensive than cut flowers, are exactly what she wants and last a long time. She feels special becuse she is and not like I wasted money on her but bought her something worth while.

Nobody shops for me like ME. Chuckie and I decide what we would want and we go buy it. And we don’t wait for special occasions.

But I’m glad she likes the flowers!!

if you have the money for flowers and you don't go crazy , it might be the only time no means yes.
or at least she will appreciate them any way.

I'm not a card or flowers guy. They cost a lot of money only to be tossed in the trash a week later.

we would be walking through the grocery store or similar a store with cards , would pick out a card hand it to each other , read them generally laugh and then put them back in the rack.

that was our , cards are too expensive for what they are solution.

Here's a neat tip I learned........

Years ago I was dating this girl. She worked at a cable company as a customer service rep , telephone call place with a dozen or so other girls.

FTD had this tiny little bouquet in a small container. They were pushing it aggressively for ' secretary's day ' ( some hokey holiday made up to sell flowers )
They were selling it cheap , I think it was $15 w/delivery at the time. Ordered one , had it sent to where she worked.

When the delivery person showed up and went inside to give the bouquet to my girl , every other girl in the place perked up their radar and watched the delivery person like a hawk.

" WHO is getting THAT " I bet they were all thinking. After my girl got the bouquet , it was like a hen fest......
" Who is the guy that sent it ? " " What is he like ? " " Is he cute ? " " Does he have a brother ? " Etc , etc
It's a girl thing....


I got waaaaaay more than my $15 dollars worth on that deal for sure.
Sometimes less is better if you do it right.

I'm not a big fan of flowers for the reason PF said above... they just die and get thrown out and like his wife I would rather have something to plant in the yard that comes back every year.

But what Cragar said here makes sense too. And it really is the thought that counts, not the cost of it. The reaction he described of his wife's co-workers shows how rare it is for men to do things like that. Many of those women probably have never gotten flowers from a guy. The women in his described hen fest didn't care about the flowers. Just about the fact that that woman had someone that cared enough to send them. The reaction would have been the same if he picked a bouquet of wildflowers off the side of the road, stuck them in a canning jar, and paid some kid on the street a couple bucks to deliver them.

When in doubt err on the side of caution. Your instincts are spot on. Great job.

If my wife gets flowers, she just assumes I want something. Lol

I just buy mine flowers and plants she can put in her gardens.

They last longer that way.

Sometimes Chuckie will surprise me with Haribo gold bears and that’s the best treat ever !
