What would you all recommend for a beginner welder looking to get a welder for trapping projects? I’d like to be able to do trap mods, build stakes, build stands, etc. My garage is wired for 200 amp service panel, but no current 220v outlet. I’ve been looking at middle of the road 110 MIG rigs like a Lincoln 140. Should I be considering something else instead?

The brand is up to you but make sure it’s a “Multiprocess Welder with Synergy”!

I don't know how to post a link, but if you look at my previous posts I asked a similar question recently and was provided with some good advice.

Why pulse? For simple putzing around, will that have any benefit?

Just because it’s synergic doesn’t mean it’s pulse!! You can’t use pulse without the correct gas mix! Being synergic makes these welding machines “smart” welding machines for the inexperienced! Synergic control adjusts the amperage or if choosing different wire thicknesses, the voltage and wire feeding speed will automatically change which is one of the biggest problems I see on here with newbie welders trying to learn how to stick to pieces of metal together without making the weldment look like a seagull took a dump on it and most importantly, get adequate fusion of both pieces!!

I would bypass the Lincoln brand 100%. I bought a 180 new and it died before I ran 10lbs of wire through it. I took it in and paid 3/4s the price of new to get it fixed. It died the second time at about 20lbs of wire. It went to the dump. I would get a bigger welder then you think you need and buy one.

I was very happy with a Hobart 140 mig (gas). After 10 years or so I sold it and got a Hobart 210mvp. Its like the 140 when plugged into 120v, but plugs into 220v for welding thicker stuff.
