Deer down here dont follow the corn spreader. Im not that regular. But, it does enable me to see what I have available to hunt when I put a camera there.

The deer also know that there is something to eat on my place so they hang around.

I'll also be planting fall plots soon in about 6 or 7 small fields. Rye, wheat, oats, clover.

Probably get that dirt ready this week and then wait on a good rain.

With the temps cooling a little earlier, I may plant earlier...by late
September. Usually I plant in early October.

I haven't been able to train em yet. They must be slow learners. Ive had this particular place 25 years and it's still a waiting game...and you still have to choose the exact right spot to sit and wait...lol

Mr. Swamp, I’m expecting some changes any day now. Been holding onto this bachelor group since April.

Have you ever considered adding brassicas to your Fall plots? That’s been my go to for the last 6 years.

Gunnleg,
I've planted rape and turnips in the past. Might add them to the mix this time.

There are a couple good'uns in that group. Hope they stick around for you!

Last year I know of a 200+ inch buck in this area that was shot in December 17 miles as the crow flys from where it had numerous pics of it taken in September. At first my thought was someone had poached it and then claimed they shot it on their property but my wife's uncle is their neighbor and saw it at his place a couple days before and heard them shot and was over the 10 minutes later taking pics of it.

My boy's big buck spent the summer about 5 miles away from where we hunt and only seemed to move into our area towards the end of rut and would stay until it shed its antlers.

This buck was on cameras 5 miles apart with a Highway in between weekly

Ive read some research about bucks shifting seasonal ranges that far.

Down here in my neck of the woods I know of several instances of 1 to 1.5 miles and a couple that pushed 3 miles. Im sure there are many double digit miles shifts that we never know about.

A 2 or 3 miles daily "home" range is not to uncommon around here with mature bucks. Our deer habitat around here is pretty narrow and linear with big chunks of open terrain in between so that's a big factor

Makes one wonder what the open terrain in Kansas (or elsewhere) has to do with long travel distances during seasonal shifts.

More open = longer travel distance.

More cover = less travel distance.

Im not sure about this....just guessing.

True. Most of what Im seeing is likely seasonal range after the shift. Several bucks seem to never leave. Others are only around in velvet. Others arrive in early fall and stay until early spring.

They are all individuals that's for sure. I added to the post above about our habitat likely being an influence
