They say, “too soon old, too late smart.”

After decades of dying body grips I’ve finally decided to start painting my body grip traps. Any thoughts on favorite colors for water trapping body grips?

I do my snares lightly with khaki and army green flat spray paint.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

I use a dead grass type color, and usually go back over a little with black striping. They seem to blend in well.

160s for coon in grass trails get tan/dead grass color.

Water bodygrips get dark brown.

If mostly underwater....match your water color....brown or black.

I camo’d all of my mink blind set 110s and my coon trail 160s and 220s.
Mostly to help hide them from people so they can blend in better.

This is with a rattle can of flat tan rustoleum and a few swipes with can of flat dark brown rustoleum. They blend very well in dead grass and brush in late season around here. Nothing fancy. Good protection and still easy to set. The coating lasts several catches/seasons.

Jim

Here is what the coon body grips look like. Cabled to stands and ready to go.

And here is a tote full of 110s for mink blind sets.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Always camo painted mine 3 or more colors, however . . .
A) Most animals will detect it regardless, as it is made of metal in a wood environment and . . .
B) Most animals still won't know it presents a danger, until it is too late.

I dip those suckers in rusty metal primer and mineral spirits 40/60. Then hit them with a couple lighter colors of necessary. Most I just leave the brown.

I've started mixing the Rust-Oleum paint with 2 part acetone and one part paint. 50/50 I've decided is a little bit thick. I then stripe with tan and black rattle cans [Linked Image]

All of my bodygrips are coated in Rust-Oleum/acetone mixer. Than they get a swipe or three of at least one other color, normally 2 colors. Its not so much to camouflage, but to break up the shape. Animals push through multiple colored items all day long. I believe that when the see something that is a solid color in a shape that does not occur naturally they are more opt to hesitate and not fully commit.
