I used to love playing chess as a kid, but unless I would throw games fairly often, none of the other kids and most adults wouldn't play me. I wasn't a gloating or bad winner, but people don't like losing all the time.

I almost always win all strategy games unless I intentionally handicap myself or just outright throw them. When the people I am playing "win", a lot of them do gloat, which is annoying and when they then stop winning, they usually won't play anything again.

On my profile under hobbies, I mention that I'm a club-level chess player. I'm not a master by any means, but I definitely enjoy the game.

I taught my whole 'hood to play and we would lay around under the trees and play all summer long, sunup to sundown.

Played a few games in my day, however it became boring when I won all the time, then had to chase after friends to beat on some more !! They usually beat me back after getting the hang of it !!

Never gloated in public about it though, like some here but some here gloat about anything they write !!

I used to really enjoy playing chess, especially while drinking beer. Eventually ran out of people to play with. Last time I had a game was my brother-in-law 9 years ago and he wasn't any good, so the game wasn't very interesting.

That’s a fine looking chess set. I haven’t played in many years . I forget how.

I don’t even play video games much anymore.

I like a challenging game of “scrub the bathtub” or “dust the livingroom” nowadays

I can hold my own for 3 or 4 moves, before getting destroyed. crazy
I don't think my brain is even capable of planning the next move after the move I'm struggling on.

I played chess a few weeks ago. Won every game. I’m possibly the greatest chess player in my house.

Of course my opponents were children, but I’m not letting anyone win unless they earn it.

I ain’t raising no freeloaders. No hand-outs in this family.

I can't think of anything else I ever said I was good at here, except maybe jokingly, bragging back and forth with the other guys.

I used to be high school champion but haven't played more than a few games in the last 25 years or so.

I played a coworker many moons ago and she thought she was pretty good. She invited me and my lady friend over for dinner one evening. Afterwards she got the chess board out and wanted to play. She said she beat her husband all the time and wanted some new competition. I check mated her in 4 moves. She never saw it coming. She was devastated and didn't want to play a second game. I felt really bad about it. I never thought she wouldn't see what I was up to. LOL

During one of my tours of in-school suspension back in high school I learned to play. The supervising teacher taught me. It was fun.

I'll occasionally play my boys. They beat the old man.

My grandma played chess for many years. My brother and I played her but never won. He stalemated her once.

The article below is from the La Crosse Tribune in 1954. She was just awarded the United States Women's Correspondence Chess Champion with a perfect score of 6-0. The game had started in 1951.

She had a showcase full of trophies and was very proud of 'em.

After she had a stroke she asked me to bring a chess board up to the hospital room. We played and she beat me. She said don't ever do that again. She knew I had not played my game. The next time I beat her and that was the last time she played chess.

Man chess is an awesome game to play. I had a PLT SGT in Iraq, he was awesome he would play 3 or 4 of us at a time and he rarely lost. we had foldable tables and would box him in and he would just use a rolling chair and move from board to board playing. I never won a single game but we played every chance we got. sometimes it was fun just watching him whip another sucker than just whipping me every week.

Love the game, just no one in my family plays. Built this set for a chess fanatic hunting client I had about 40 years ago.

Dang newhouse, I don't get envious often but that's beautiful. What would something like that cost today?
