So back in a different lifetime, I used to work out every day, both running and lifting. My work was 2 blocks from the police station, so I could go there every day on my lunch break, and on my days off I could drive over to one of the substations. Then our shop moved, so I quit doing that, but through my job I was able to stay busy all day. Now that I've started staying at home though, I don't even get that, and I can feel it. Mind you, I'm not out of shape by any means, at 5'10 and 175-180 lbs, but I can feel myself not being as fit as I once was.

So, I've decided to do something about it. I realized I can shrug my shoulders and wait till I'm 250lbs and then ask myself why I didn't do something a long time ago, or I can do something now. So, for the first time in about 5 years, I went on a run. It SUCKED. But I ran the whole way, without stopping. My time was officially 8:56.

So for the runners on here.......what's your mile time? I need a goal to set for myself. I'd like to get to a consistent sub 8 minute mile without feeling like I'm gonna die, and then add some distance. (Not much, maybe 2-3 miles).

Same here, in a past life about 8 years ago. I would run 5-10 miles a day.

Man I miss it.
Fastest mile for me was about 6:50 or ao. Usually around 9-10 on long runs. I’m not a very fast runner, was never competing with anyone other than myself.

I’ll look and see if I can get times, I know my fastest 5k was a touch over 23 minutes. Got smoked by some high school kids.

35 years ago, I posted 13 flat on my Army PT test two mile run. Never run a mile for time, but I figure I could've bettered six and a half. I might could do a 13 minute mile today if you held a gun on me but otherwise I ain't running nowhere.

I am no runner but I know what you mean , I can walk all day but , shoot, I re-joined the gym after about 6 years not going , and I did a half mile and had to quit my first time back , goal is add a minute more every day to fee days till I am at 3 miles , goal being a 10 minute mile.

I don't need to be fast I just need to have the endurance to do a few miles at a run.

I haven't run a mile since football practice nearly 20 years ago. At that time I could do it in about 6 minutes and 45 seconds, which wasn't too bad for a petite 325 pounder.

Thinking back to a time long ago....like well over 40+ years ago I remember our high school track coach wanting men to maintain "women's" time of 6 minutes for practice and we had to be under 5 to run the event in meets. I ran in the 4-40's and was too slow. I never placed at State in the 1600

But that was for a 17 year old in peak condition. I would imagine if you set a goal to be sub 8 by the end of the year and could get to low 7's by mid-next year, you would be doing great (LOL better than me) I remember my coach stressing we needed to build stamina, so probably how I learned to work 14-18 hours a day

I read somewhere that distance running for men my age is not as beneficial as short sprints. I do 60 to 100yd sprints over terrain. Most recently I have started doing it with gear attached. Not where I want to be and don’t know that I can get there with my age but I’m feeling pretty good these days.

We have 70mph limits here. Doesn't Montana have high speed freeway?

When I run track some 40 plus years ago my mile was usually around the 5:40 time which wasn't real fast. But ran track to stay in shape year around for football. I was more of a sprinter than a distance runner.

In high-school I had around a 6 min mile and 2 miles in 16.

Ten years ago or longer early 30s I started working out and got a 2.2 mile on gravel and hills to about 18min 30sec and would not be winded after walking about 150 feet.

Today ha ha not going to happen with out a lot of work. But it needs to happen.

I broke my pelvis in 2016. Before that I ran 5k to 1/2 marathons. Half I would run typically in the 8-9 min mile group. Now, post covid, I'm 32-35 minutes for a 5k. Haven't ran longer too much pain. I miss the longer runs. 65yo.

Im pretty confident in a sub 10 minute mile. Slower than sub 9 minutes though. Always been a sprinter, fat and old now

I ran for 25 years. Started in my mid 30s. Don’t run any longer. Hated sprinting and 5Ks. Best time was 21:30. Ran a whole lot of 10K and half marathons. Also a handful of marathons. My favorite run was always the Sunday morning 10-12 miler. My advice is to start easy. Let your body adjust. Don’t run as fast as ya can every time ya run.

I'm too old to run and too old to fight, but if someone ever tries me, I can still shoot.
I'm good out to a half mile if I have time to sort out the dope.
I can generally get that squared before someone can run a half mile.
They'll just die tired.

When in college playing BB and on Track & Field team I could run 6:30 miles. Now at age 57 with a partially torn meniscus (too frugal and not enough pain to address) I’m at 10:30-11 minute miles. Three times a week jog / walk around the block which is about 3.5 miles
