So back in a different lifetime, I used to work out every day, both running and lifting. My work was 2 blocks from the police station, so I could go there every day on my lunch break, and on my days off I could drive over to one of the substations. Then our shop moved, so I quit doing that, but through my job I was able to stay busy all day. Now that I've started staying at home though, I don't even get that, and I can feel it. Mind you, I'm not out of shape by any means, at 5'10 and 175-180 lbs, but I can feel myself not being as fit as I once was.
So, I've decided to do something about it. I realized I can shrug my shoulders and wait till I'm 250lbs and then ask myself why I didn't do something a long time ago, or I can do something now. So, for the first time in about 5 years, I went on a run. It SUCKED. But I ran the whole way, without stopping. My time was officially 8:56.
So for the runners on here.......what's your mile time? I need a goal to set for myself. I'd like to get to a consistent sub 8 minute mile without feeling like I'm gonna die, and then add some distance. (Not much, maybe 2-3 miles).

Same here, in a past life about 8 years ago. I would run 5-10 miles a day.
Man I miss it. Fastest mile for me was about 6:50 or ao. Usually around 9-10 on long runs. I’m not a very fast runner, was never competing with anyone other than myself.
I’ll look and see if I can get times, I know my fastest 5k was a touch over 23 minutes. Got smoked by some high school kids.

I am no runner but I know what you mean , I can walk all day but , shoot, I re-joined the gym after about 6 years not going , and I did a half mile and had to quit my first time back , goal is add a minute more every day to fee days till I am at 3 miles , goal being a 10 minute mile.
I don't need to be fast I just need to have the endurance to do a few miles at a run.

Thinking back to a time long ago....like well over 40+ years ago I remember our high school track coach wanting men to maintain "women's" time of 6 minutes for practice and we had to be under 5 to run the event in meets. I ran in the 4-40's and was too slow. I never placed at State in the 1600
But that was for a 17 year old in peak condition. I would imagine if you set a goal to be sub 8 by the end of the year and could get to low 7's by mid-next year, you would be doing great (LOL better than me) I remember my coach stressing we needed to build stamina, so probably how I learned to work 14-18 hours a day

I read somewhere that distance running for men my age is not as beneficial as short sprints. I do 60 to 100yd sprints over terrain. Most recently I have started doing it with gear attached. Not where I want to be and don’t know that I can get there with my age but I’m feeling pretty good these days.

Run? Lol. Some days I'm happy to just walk without my hips or knees killing me.
