I agree about the etiquette involved in being a guest on someone’s land and inviting whomever is in poor taste.
I’ve been told no various times about permission to trap and took it with a grain of salt. One thing I was taught in NTA trappers handbook. Don’t pitch a fit or get weird. Didn’t fall game commission because the guy has been dealt with and corrected by our friend. Just another liability hanging around. I can see someone is going to be in the way during my otherwise peaceful Sunday trapping now that the state has opened those days up.
If he got his license late I wonder if he knows how to get an antlerless tag. Or if he is just going to shoot anything because he doesn’t know those rules either.

I’ve preached it for years. Biggest mistake I see folks make. If I give you permission that means I gave YOU permission not you and 5 of your buddies. By the way a phone call every few months and a card or something during the holidays sets you apart from 99.9% of the crowd.

This. Few years back I got a call from a guy who duck hunts on developed land next to ours. On occasion, we have surplus water and it attracts more ducks than his developed land does. He was asking for permission. As harmless as that would be, I told him NO. He brings his friends.....so before you know it, friends think they have permission too, and they bring friends and before you know it, your private land has become public hunting land. I've lost track of the number of landowners who confronted people on their land and when asked who gave them permission, response is "the owner did". It can get ugly if not enforced.

Years ago, old neighbor of ours went to his duck blind only to find 3 high school kids sitting in his blind. He confronted them and rather than heading for the exit, they got smart. "What are you going to do about it old man"? He leveled his shotgun on them and said he would kill all three on the spot. That kinda took the fun out of it.........realizing they were all moments away from being shot.......they went all humble and left. Word went out and no more poachers on old Joe's land.

Some people can ruin it for everyone. Hunted a piece of private land that other kept sneaking into, now no one can it.

Aren't you just self-righteous. Guessing you only us long bow, hand made wooden arrows, and arrowheads you hand chipped from mother earth; which gives you the entitlement to be judgemental over others. Otherwise your one of those cheating guys that use compound bow that can jack up the poundage, shooting carbon arrows, with modern broadheads and mechanically extend the effective accuracy and killing range.


I'm a landowner and have been through the permission "assumptions" more times than I care to recall. Learned very early to squash that headache before it starts. When I grant permission, it is clear and precise - who & when. The first time someone returns with their buddy, uncle, cousin, blah, blah, blah its immediately game over. That crap spirals out of control so fast

That's the kind of folk that will; get your permission revoked! AND the stain will be attached to YOUR name for all that farmers friends/neighbors to hear about and refuse YOU permission. How sad.

In Maryland, the LAW requires that ALL hunters have a WRITTEN permission paper IN THEIR possession for that property. All my hunters are issued one only, and signed by me with their signature also. GW's and Feds have access to my property at ANYTIME without contacting me first. Anyone caught or checked without that paper WILL BE cited and / or prosecuted without execption. I've only had two issues over the last 20 years . . . word got out fast . . . don't trespass / hunt here!
