The thing with longsprings is the soil type your dealing with if your burying them above ground won’t matter then. UP sand was ideal for the LS traps but here is SD it’s all above ground unless a fields been worked well. We can use them in regular soils but it’s more work MJs are simpler.

I used to use dbl longsprings a lot back in the 70's. The farm soil around here was easy to bed them in. I remember vividly a red fox double I caught in a couple of sets with Victor #2 DLS.

I wish somebody would make a quality and somewhat affordable double long spring with a jawspread equal to a 1.75. There just isn't a market for them I guess. I don't know it it helps ya, but a #3 with an inside lamination would be about the same as that. Probably more affordable to buy them used than any newly manufactured traps.

I’m getting a couple dozen long springs ready for this year. I’ve working on 1 dz 3n, 6 each sleepy creek #4’s and 8 each Victor #4’s. All have Pitt pans with Rod dogs, jaws laminated, base plated with center D-rings and that sexy #3 twisted chain with JC Connor swivels. Also all Jaw ends are bubbled and all attached point welded. I also put non skid tap on the extra large pans as I’ll be targeting mostly cats with these. Probably will run most of them on drags.

Not a K9 but long springs work on kitties also. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fur/i-nmSmzBH/0/MKzPk9Wn8tjtVMkVgXJZ7hJkkmsx7L9gbhFzJmVrb/L/IMG_1477-L.jpg) Here’s a coyote from last season. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fur/i-skDpLG8/0/NHBVPfjVHMLBDZRvzqfMRzcTRfZNtdzMrwnPWZGm6/L/IMG_1405-L.jpg) Here’s a bunch I’m dying and waxing. All recently modified with jaw laminations, base plates and super stakes. 94 waiting for wax. A few coil springs that I missed doing last spring and three dozen No BS wolf traps. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fur/i-JfnbdML/0/KmRbJj9QMq53HGb3QRDDC479njScXVpL2RPVRnR44/L/IMG_2028-L.jpg)
Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.
