I don’t know why but I just think a k9 in longsprings looks way cooler than in a coilspring. Anybody have pics of any they’ve caught in a DLS over the years? For those of you that use them, which ones are your favorite and what mods do you do?

The thing with longsprings is the soil type your dealing with if your burying them above ground won’t matter then. UP sand was ideal for the LS traps but here is SD it’s all above ground unless a fields been worked well. We can use them in regular soils but it’s more work MJs are simpler.

Best I can do! Pictures back in the day weren't as clear as digital.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I used to use dbl longsprings a lot back in the 70's. The farm soil around here was easy to bed them in.
I remember vividly a red fox double I caught in a couple of sets with Victor #2 DLS.

I wish somebody would make a quality and somewhat affordable double long spring with a jawspread equal to a 1.75. There just isn't a market for them I guess.

I don't know it it helps ya, but a #3 with an inside lamination would be about the same as that. Probably more affordable to buy them used than any newly manufactured traps.

Not a k-9 but the best I can do at the moment. #4 Bridger long with a square base welded on for quick bedding in the snow.

I’m getting a couple dozen long springs ready for this year. I’ve working on 1 dz 3n, 6 each sleepy creek #4’s and 8 each Victor #4’s. All have Pitt pans with Rod dogs, jaws laminated, base plated with center D-rings and that sexy #3 twisted chain with JC Connor swivels. Also all Jaw ends are bubbled and all attached point welded. I also put non skid tap on the extra large pans as I’ll be targeting mostly cats with these. Probably will run most of them on drags.

Once upon a time I trapped pickup loads of coyotes in 3Ns (I modified them all to base plate center swivels and put Pos-i-trip pans on them), that was what the gov't issued and I wasnt about to use my own equipment. Personally, I don't run any long springs now, but only because they take a lot more excavation than my coilsprings. Wax dirt is a more precious commodity to me than nostalgia. Nothing wrong with a well tuned longspring for catching any furbearer as far as I am concerned.

Not a K9 but long springs work on kitties also.

Here’s a coyote from last season.

Here’s a bunch I’m dying and waxing. All recently modified with jaw laminations, base plates and super stakes. 94 waiting for wax. A few coil springs that I missed doing last spring and three dozen No BS wolf traps.

At one time there was a "Great Double Longspring" thread. A quick search couldn't find it.

Pages and pages of double longspring info and catches.
