Not sure if its a sign the then end of the world is coming, but in 36 years of having my farm, I've never seen it this bad. We usually get a few throughout summer tunnelling the yrd and I trap them out. This year I've killed about 20 and that hasn't put a dent in this nightmare. About 2 acre yrds is all torn up holes and tunnells everywhere. First time ever of having them tunnel right next to the house.

So, I'm sure there are a few people out there that have encountered large scale destruction from these POS. Any good solutions?

I’ve been running six traps in my yard most of this summer. New acreage is full of them. I’ve got three of these plastic victor ez sets and three of the steel style victors. Both work but you have to keep moving them around every couple days to fresh tunnels for success.
Might be better traps like the scissor style but these victors do work and I’m up to 18 moles killed so far. I’ll keep running these for awhile.
We live in a forested area overlooking the Platte river and the tunnels are everywhere.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I had moles that started doing some home building where they were not wanted, got some "Reaper" scissor traps and the moles left, never caught one...very strange, but then Voles moved in, caught a few in snap traps and all is well in the realm.....Still have no idea where or why the moles moved on to....

I opted to try some Mole Reaper traps and glad I did - very effective in removing moles. TonyH on here is the guy behind Mole Reaper and has some excellent tutorial videos showing how to use and set the traps.

My wife went on a mole rampage in May and June. She caught 34 moles on 1.5 acres around the house. Got dry this summer and haven’t needed to set another trap. Over the years we’ve tried a few different brands but have landed on the Mole Eliminator. I like them because you don’t have to get on the ground to make a set.

My problem is not having the time to baby sit the traps. I kind of feel like Bill in Caddy Shack right now

It's quite easy, but the legality is questionable

Find every hole you can, in each hole place a piece of carbide

Soak each hole with water, this produces acetylene gas in the tunnels

On the last hole run a piece of cannon fuse into the hole

Light the cannon fuse and run away....your yard will explode

You no longer have mole or voles to deal with but alot of raking

and smoothing of your yard

Can the poisoned peanuts be sold anymore? Had a neighbor who swore by them 30 years ago.

Mole trapping at my moms was a very humbling experience for me. Put in a Victor outta sight. First thing was poking around finding the tunnels between the mounds. Then I didn’t put a bucket overtop to keep the light out. Finally after I did that we caught him. Mom sure hates me doing outdoorsy stuff until she has a problem critter! Then her tune changes!!

Are any of you guys old enough that you sold mole pelts?

My maternal grandparents had 2 matching, mole skin chairs. They were super soft. You could brush the hair back and forth and it would stay either way. The chairs must have taken a huge number of moles.

When we were kids, we'd walk on the tunnel to flatten it and then wait with the shotgun to see the ground moving.

Buzzy,

Ever use carbide in a paint can with a touch hole in the side of it?

I like the Nash hoop trap.

Keith family lore has it that my great grandfather had a mole skin vest. Can’t imagine how many it took . You’re right too, mole skin feels a lot like velvet. Can’t believe there’s not a market for it

I also treat with Grub-X once or twice a year .

They were cool chairs, really old and not in great shape. My grandparents had the chairs reupholstered when I was around 7. I was disappointed because I really liked the feel of and playing around with the fur of the mole skins.

My younger brother and I would each get to sit in one of the chairs when we visited them. It was a good thing there were two chairs.

Those chairs, the rabbit ruffs on my mom's blue coat and a matching rabbit hat she had, are the first fur I remember ever touching. I loved the smell of the leather on the backsides of the ruffs.

My maternal grandmother did have a mink stole, made from mink my grandfather trapped, but I don't remember seeing that until years later.

I remember trying to catch rabbits for their fur, when I was very young. My grandfather always told me I could catch one by sprinkling salt on their tails. I did try it. He had a lot of fun watching me try. I eventually asked him why I couldn't just grab one if I could get close enough to salt it. He said that wad the real way to catch one.

Can’t imagine trapping or even obtaining that many moles…… of course life probably didn’t have many distractions back then….. or did it ??? I suppose it is all relative
