I started out climbing crab apple trees picking the apples for my grandmother and some of her friends , then shoveled snow for them .
When I got into boy scouts we delivered hand bills to pay for our camping trips and to keep heat and electricity on in the boy scout barracks then sold Christmas trees, after school .
I helped my folks work on water wells and learned the finer points of a shovel in various ditches in all kinds of weather . where I learned that I enjoyed working on water wells and wind mills way more than plumbing or cleaning drain lines or pumping out septic tanks .
I bought my own device rig in 1991 and worked on water wells all over Southeastern Montana , pulling pipes pumps and wire as well as cylinders or working barrels under wind mills or pump jacks or fishing them out if the customer tried it themselves and it got away from them .
I started working as a stagehand in 1978 and can't remember all of the symphony's , opera's and concerts I've worked for or on then not to mention the 5 major motion pictures I've work on .
During this same time I worked line clearance for 2 seasons and tried logging during the winter months . then later cut and sold firewood .
I also was a skinner for the different fur shops and did a little trapping when I could until after graduation , A short stay in college that wasn't my cup of tea and as a back shop parts man for the Caterpillar dealership until highway construction funds were cut and was laid off .
Making a wide variety of predator snares and helping others to be proficient setting them and dealing with grandkids now while trying to avoid Dr's , surgeons , nurses nd hospitals is getting tougher all the time ha ha
As you may of noticed I prefer to keep busy , sorry if this isn't in order but it is what it is ha ha
Enjoy your day and Stay Safe out there even if you don't want to ha ha !
You're friend along the snare line . Allan

Caught and sold Night Crawlers as a kid. Mowed lawns and worked at a gas station through high school. Got a bachelors degree in Wildlife Management then did a cougar study to get a masters degree in Wildlife Management. Worked for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in the summers during college (putting up hay to feed elk at Hardware Ranch, Mourning Dove nesting study, fawn mortality study and winter range habitat study). Two years as a Wildlife Biologist and 30 years as a Utah Conservation Officer. After I retired I worked 3 summers for the BLM as a security manager on forest fires. Since then I do whatever I want whenever I want. Currently, helping my wife with a bighorn sheep hunt (she finally drew a tag after applying for 25 years).
United we stand.

Just asking for a friend ... We're sorry Nessmuck if you've had an uneventful life. This is a much better thread with a little personal history added.

I like all the history. Work ethic and character building going on for sure. Some real hard working folks all their lives on here. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I also like the added history, a lot more interesting than reading 'retired such and such after thirty years'. Great thread Savell!
My first job was at 9 years old, helping an old man cut wood with a bowsaw. Then raking leaves, cutting grass and shoveling snow for him and anybody else. Picked blueberries, earthworms, nightcrawlers and sold them. Use to sell Painter turtles to petshops, sold dozens of Eastern Hognose snakes to the herp at the Long Island Game Farm. If my family would have stayed on Long Island, I believe I'd have had a landscape/lawncare company because I already had at least twenty steady customers by the age of 14. At 17 I was my stepdad's helper delivering eggs all over NYC. At 21 I was driving the truck and my younger brother was my helper. At 22 we quit the eggs and started delivering kitchen cabinets up and down the East coast. At 24 I got into painting and loved it. After years of learning, I started my own business and have been self-employed for the past 22 years. Winters generally slow down due to lack of exterior work so, time to hunt and trap.

I started working right out of school as a trim carpenter and cabinet builder as that’s what my family has done going back 4 generations. I then moved into a position as a warehouse manager on the houston ship channel. I then went into oilfield inspection work. Then into purchasing for a metal fabrication company. When they went under I started my own business and brought some of their old customers with me and started representing a line of industrial fans.
I now run my own company selling and installing all types of commercial and industrial fans. I also do a little metal fabrication for some long time customers. As I get older ( will be 60 this November) I’ll probably let that fabrication work entirely go or sub it all out and just do online sales . It took me about 7 yrs to intentionally get to this point where I can work from home as I get older. Life’s pretty good right now. I can move anyplace in the world and as long as I have internet I can make a good living.

Did a lot of farm work as a kid. Got into a glaziers union and got hurt before i was 30. I ended up buying a glass business and still run it today and farm on the side.
Just passin through
