What's the best one you've heard? I just had a coworker tell me that the state of MN released 3000 artic wolves to increase our wolf size, thereby increasing the number of deer they consume. Apparently it's a way to control chronic wasting disease.
The same fellow has spoken in the past of the stealth helicopters that the MNDNR used to release mountain lions here.

if a snapping turtle bites you it wont let go till it thunders
rattle snakes wont cross a horse hair rope
if you touch a baby animal mom will abandon it
handling a toad will give you warts
possum bites are poisonous

Porcupine will shoot their quills
Everything imaginable is endangered
Bears have families showing the male in the “family” picture
Most other critters shown as family units that the males will kill the young
If you pick up a skunk it can’t spray you (only works on the fist sized pups)

The only one I know that really stuck with me was what an old timer named Wendell told me. He was friends with my grandpap and he was a heck of a trapper. He is still living but in a nursing facility after a bad stroke.
Told me that male opossums have a forked “member” and they breed the female through the nostrils and she then sneezes the “seed” into her pouch and thats how they make babies! What! That's a myth?
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Beavers mate for life. Geese mate for life...etc. If that's true I will maintain that humans also mate for life.

Predators only kill the sick animals. I heard a panther scream. I saw an 80 to 100 lb beaver. Fishers are killing all the turkey's...
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Don't eat rabbits or squirrels in any month without the letter "r". I was always told to only shoot deer in months with an "r". Usually started in Jurly or Aurgust.

Had a lady once at a public discussion on bobcat trapping. Her suggestion was we should just catch them, shear them like sheep, and turn them loose unharmed. She didn’t like when I snickered in the background:
Others I’ve heard:
Whitetail rut only occurs during rifle season Whitetail mate for life
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have had several people from Kentucky tell me that skinks will severely electrocute you if you touch their blue tails.
Opossums do have forked penises.
Keith I’ll have to look when I catch one! But to breed through the nose? Ha ha ha

Deer, elk, mulies,..bed all day long if its raining hard.
They all have to pee and poop every 35-45 minutes and they don't do that laying down. They stand up, shake off the rain, and take care of business. Watched deer and elk in the rain. like clock work they get up do their thing. Sometimes lay back down and sometimes mill around for a while.

When cows are all laying down...the fish ain't bitin'.
When possums are moving...deer are moving (this has some truth to it.)

I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

If you get bit by a snapper, they won’t turn loose until it thunders. Possum and coon can interbreed Beaver can create water where there isnt any.( I’m talking desert dry)

Divers went down to repair the dam of the lake; saw catfish bigger than a car said they would never go back. Here it was divers and a bridge. It was northern pike over 6 feet long that made them never go back. Lol

Divers went down to repair the dam of the lake; saw catfish bigger than a car said they would never go back. We have those giant cats here too! I've heard the dam repair version, and like rvsask the bridge repair version. Also, the IDNR has been releasing mountain lions to reduce the deer herd.

Wisconsin DNR telling me personal seining of shiners in the Lower Wisconsin River, used in the same area without removal from the water to transport, and then releasing unused shiners into the same spot they were seined will spread VHS. That's right, exactly what I was told.

Wolves: only kill what they need to survive. only kill the weak and starving. only the alpha male and female breed and have pups. have distinct territories and never cross those lines. once you catch a wolf in a set, you will never get another wolf to go to that set again. don't eat fish. and many more fantasies.
Just doing what I want now.

Best one I know, and hear regularly is "if you kill coyotes you end up with even more coyotes because they respond by having bigger litters".
What a crock! Yes, I’ve heard that also. What I do know, every female coyote killed will never have anymore litters. LOL

Michigan DNR planted coyotes to curb the deer population. Can't tell you how many times I've heard that bunk.

Bear and elk weights. Has to be the most embellished numbers a guy can hear out here Oh I don’t know. The coyote callers “number” has to be right up there. I’m amazed at how many triple digit a year shooters there are out there!
