Before: dirty, bloody, green skinned raccoons, after hanging in front of a fan overnight...

[Linked Image]

After: 10 min. in my dryer turned tumbler with corncob horse bedding for the media....

[Linked Image]

It may not be for everyone but I think it's pretty great for what I use it for.

Anyone else else use an old dryer converted to a fur tumbler?

Here she is, ain't pretty but gets the job done...

Here they are part way though them all. I do 2-4 coons at a time in the dryer depending on their size.

I'll add a quart or two every every 50 coons or so. Just whenever it looks like it needs some fresh, really depends on how dirty the coons were. A bag of bedding will last me at least a couple years.

I use a dryer also and started using the corn cob bedding on your recommendation. The cob works better than sawdust. I tumble all the fur except otter.

I don't think there's heat involved. Just tumbling action in the drum.

It’s hard to tell but are the paddles still in your dryer? It kind of looks like they are. And does it matter if they are removed or not?

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

So for us guys new to putting up fur. Do you tumble them before flashing? And also what do we need to do to the dryer to make it work? Interested in doing this. My son and I want to put up the best fur we can

This is correct. Mine was an electric dryer. I hook the drum motor up through a light switch I mount on the dryer, and duct tape all the holes in the drum shut. On a gas dryer, just don't hook up a gas line I'm told.

The bedding... https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/best-cob-premium-horse-bedding-5075571

Leave them in, they don't hurt, probably help.

I don't finish them. They are sold green skinned, but I tumble them to get them dryer and cleaner so they look good for the buyer. It saves a lot of brushing and washing and gets them ready for the freezer sooner. My buddies who also use a dryer/tumbler do tumble them before fleshing to get the dirt and blood out of them as well. The cob media helps absorb moisture that didn't dry out of the hides from hanging in front of a fan overnight.

Seems like muddy nights are best for catching fox and coyotes too. I usually shop vac out the corn cob pellets and start with fresh ones when I do the k9s. Not sure why though. lol

I use the same set up, and yes I tumble them all before fleshing.

"Anyone else else

Yes. Used coil stock to line the drum.

I posted up. It was not worth arguing
with the tman fire police.

I'd keep an eye on the duct tape
and debris around the motor.

It lasted less than two seasons.
The bearings and idlers went out.

It made furs nice.
Buyers did not care and
used some other excuse.

I've been using this same one for I suppose around 10 maybe 12 years. Same duct tape. May have been gorilla tape, I'm not sure since it has been so long ago.

The metal tape, with peel off backer, for furnaces is good too.
Youtoob has how to fix the bearings etc cheap.
Not an option when I had mine.
They're not hard just tricky.
