Looks like another opener without snow. Currently a high of 48 degrees and partly cloudy.

Yep, logged part of mine 7 years ago where I stand and had to cut some openings now but I see way more deer. Sit all day in those remps.

Weather looks pretty decent, as much as I might want a little snow. Lows in the 20s, highs pushing 50. Sit all day.

Which means the neighbors won't get cold and antsy about 9am and kick the deer around.

Really glad it won't be that slush crap we got yesterday.

I've got one in the freezer already and our deer camp has dwindled to just my dad and I. Might sit all day opening day but do more walking around on public land the rest of season just to see some new ground.

Im going out Saturday morning, may sit all day?? My pup just other day came in heat for first time. So I may have to run back to camp at noon let her out for little romp. Our camp / my sister cottage is down to only 4 this year. Think we were up to 8 at one time when my son was younger. My son is youngest this year at 40. The kid he mentored and had with last year. Is a referee for a WW type wrestling show. So he has a show this Saturday would rather get hit with a chair than sit in woods. Kids.

Was in stand at 6 dropped my wife off. Had to get my mom's utv warmed up. She's 87 andin stand by7 am. SE winds is chilly. I still sit out in the open. Passed a 14" 8 at. a spike and8 does and fawns. Real orange sunrise. Sailor take warning.

915 every opening day. Was getting hungry.

Sat the first 4.5 hours this AM. No deer near me that I could see. Will go back for a couple hours this afternoon. Several hunters arouond me with one shooting once about 8 AM. lot of squirrels foraging in the chisel plowed corn field.

The Boy and I each shot a nice doe. I hit mine in the heart running after he and my brother kicked up three to me walking in for lunch and The Boy got his this evening, head shot through the ear holes at 70 yards with his 30-30. Good times at camp but I should get some sleep its midnight and here we all sit around the table being loud and planning where we're shooting the bucks tomorrow lol.

This morning's ones were in the neighbors field; I had brought one of my rodent-in-distress mouth calls with me but it didn't feel right to light up the area with screaming rat sounds when there was a chance that a deer might be around. But deer prolly aren't gonna be around anyways if there are a couple of coyotes cruisin around. Next time I'll crack off a shot at a yote if I see one

Much more shooting around here today. I think the calm winds and packers game had deer and hunters moving.

Here's a different tree stand. Buddy drilled a hole and set his boat seat pedestal into it. Foot rests are screwed in, you can just see one under the seat front edge...the boy was comfy.

Did not see a deer in 7.5 hours in the blind today. A flock of 13 turkeys fed near and around the blind for quite a while this AM. Lots of fox squirrels foraging again today.

Saw 2 does at around 4:00 pm. They were at least 600 yards out, in the neighbor's field. But at least I saw some finally lol

I Shot a doe this afternoon. Had a talk with the landowner before that who cruised through there with their UTVs. They let me know they were coming down beforehand which is nice. They're hunting 1 of their other farms and have only got 1 doe so far. I told him I let 2 4 pointers go opening morning because I'd rather shoot does they appreciate taking out some does. He said he's tired of feeding them.

Muskrat have you done any good yet? You running out of the Millville boat landing or somewhere different?

my uncle sent a pic of hair , white hair , no blood = missed low , it's his first time slug gun hunting and what is an easy poke with a 270 is a frustrating disappointment with a 12ga foster slug he really didn't understand slugs unfortunately.

3rd day in stand sit all day, My mom opening evening shot a 8 point she 87 so that is awesome. Other than that it has been real slow.

Nothing seen Sunday. Two past the stand right at first light today. Doe and fawn filled the doe tag Saturday so they are safe from the -06 now

I hate coyotes I'm sitting in one of my stands rn and just a few minutes ago 4 or 5 coyotes came out at about 150 yards from me but they were on neighbors property otherwise I woulda blasted them. Tried calling em in but they didn't seem too interested; they'd just stop running and look when I started calling but then just continued running back and forth.

It's no wonder I'm not seeing deer

Saw a few but none were in range. It's a long season I just need one more.

Did some drives on public with a big group today. We pushed a lot of deer around and one of the kids got a nub buck. Only mammal I saw was this snowshoe hare. He sat still and let me get to about 4 feet from him and never moved. I feel like I may have given him a false sense of how well his camouflage was working. The snow coming Wednesday will help him out for sure.

It was raining during sit time today so I worked on my chore list.

Raining now but leaving camp today so headed out after a sit down in the 2 holer.

Raining here too. Had to opt for a ground blind in the woods today to get out of it

Well at least I finally saw some. Had a little one-sided 2 or 3 point buck at 15 yards but I passed cuz... well, it's a one-sided 2 or 3 point buck. Then I also kicked up a doe but I couldn't shoot cuz there was a road behind her. But at least now I know there are deer around lol

I finally saw a small buck today. Fork or 6. No way I'd pass on that lol, but he jumped out of his bed and hit the thick brush before I could get the scope covers off. Oh well finally saw a buck during gun season. Closed up camp, home now and tomorrow we hit the big woods to make drives. If its brown its down tomorrow. Fingers crossed I dont get stuck sounds like a pile of snow tonight and tomorrow morning so good tracking and good vision.

I didn't even attempt to go out this morning. Looked outside at the 30 mph winds bringing in snow and I was like, ain't no way lol.

CpyoteCowboy, that's what I'd do too. Don't let any of these guys give ya crap over it either. What county are you in, must be up north. I'm in Crawford/Grant and we got a dusting and the winds howling out there. I've got to work anyway and I've also shot 2 does. One with an Xbow in October and one with a rifle Sunday.

I shot a nice doe on Monday evening. Good meat. The weather was going to get ugly and my help was going home so I couldn't wait any longer. Right now it's snowing with a 30 mph wind. I made the right decision. Chopped it up yesterday and will grind burger today. I'm 74 and any time I can still go is a successful outing.

Yeah, I figured the deer would all be bedded down, plus I kinda needed a break anyway. Slept in til 6:30! Yeah I'm a little bit further north. St. Croix county

I got this buck and a doe opening day before 8 am. Donated them to the Hunt for the Hungry program since my freezer is already full of meat. I even got my 87 year old father out to help drag them in with the Gator. He had a major stroke in August so I was glad for him to experience the hunt this fall. Not sure how many more we will ever have. Cherish the time you have.

That's what it's all about right there. We lost the patriarch of our deer camp, my grandpa, back in 2008. What I wouldn't give to have one more night of sheepshead with him.

I would enjoy the camp more than a cold hunt

My brother and I hunted with a group of about 15 guys yesterday doing drives on public land. As a group we got 11 deer. Had a great time, its a lot of work that way but its enjoyable for sure. He has never experienced a big drive so I had to take him before he heads back to NY tomorrow. Here is a picture of the deer tree and my little brother.

Trap Setter, Wow is all I can say. That's an amazing amount of deer. That's a lot of deer to butcher. I just got done doing 5 and that was plenty for us. Congrats on a great hunt.

Well... regular season is over had a great time with family and friends I ended up with 2 deer and The Boy got 2 as well. One each up north and one each in the deer drives. He got his first running deer with a pump 20 gauge she jumped up between us at 15 yards and he made a good safe shot as she went backwards through the drive. He was pumped about that one. Here are a few pictures of the group this week.









Hope everyone had a safe and productive hunting season. Time to dust off the smoke poles and get after em again I guess.

This season for me will be the first in 56 years of hunting deer ever year since I was 12. I did not see even one deer while on my stand and I have shot several there in years past. Not complaining just how it goes. My brother shot two bucks my son shot a doe other guy in our group of 4 shot a spike. So we didn't go without deer just me turn to not shoot any. I have to thank my brother and my son for looking out for my cripple arse.
Our little group still has tags we can use for muzzle loader or bow season. Special doe hunt. Plenty of opportunity if we want deer.
I was set up in a blind this year first time in my life and it was nice deal.
