Why is Thanksgiving Day always on a Thursday?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Pilgrims befriended the Indians on a Thursday and had fried turkey. Everyone knows that.

laugh I'm sure Keith will google up a reason, but basically its just tradition. Lincoln decided on it, FDR made it law.

Thanksgiving is on a Thursday due to historical tradition, starting with Puritan colonists who used Thursday for religious lectures, and a legislative decision by the U.S. government to standardize the holiday. President Abraham Lincoln first established a national Thanksgiving in 1863 on the last Thursday of November, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt later codified it as the fourth Thursday in 1941 to create a consistent, unified date.
Historical roots: Puritan colonists in New England held religious lectures on Thursdays, contributing to the day's significance for the holiday. The day also provided an extended weekend for families to gather.
Lincoln's declaration: In 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, setting it for the last Thursday in November.
Roosevelt's move: In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday to the second to last Thursday to extend the Christmas shopping season, but this caused public confusion and debate, with some states continuing to celebrate on the original date.
Final legislation: To end the confusion, Congress passed a resolution in 1941, which Roosevelt signed into law, officially establishing Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday in November. This ensures the holiday is always between November 22nd and the 28th, regardless of how many Thursdays are in the month.

I read this just recently , Thanksgiving is getting more popular in the UK and some other spots in Europe.

An American holiday being celebrated in the UK. Like what ?

Not a lot , but some people are starting to celebrate it.

The reason why is not for the tradition , but the fantastic American feast that comes with it.

Ya gotta admit , a great meal with a turkey, ham or both and all the fixings , appetizers , pies and drinks. Sharing this with a huge group of family and friends , is very hard to turn down.

American cuisine wins...... grin

Mainly because that's the day the last that wrote Mary had little lamb, asked Lincoln to make it it the last Thursday of November.
