So, did this wolf figure it out on it's own? Did it observe humans pulling the traps? Simple trick to teach a dog but who taught the wolf?

I know that wolves in southeast Alaska, you get one mistake. They won't fall for it a second time. And as for the above video, it doesn't surprise me. They probably saw a human check a pot, recognized the smell of the bait, or maybe crab, and put two and two together.
Wish we could pick Gulo's brain about that.


Just doing what I want now.

I've had raccoon pull in minnow traps . . . and I don't consider a raccoon all that smart.

As Johnny Thorpe would say, raccoons don't lack intelligence. They lack fear.

To the OP, that is pretty crazy. My bet would be also that the wolf witnessed someone pull the line in.
