Dont have a dog in this fight, but a hundred dollars buys a fair amount of fishing or hunting gear. Im not spending my money on a throw-away tree.

When my wife Girlfriend at the time. Moved into her first apparent she wanted an x mas tree. I went to one of the stores close by and the best looking fake tree they had only had a display model Left. It was very close to x mas so they were on sale I also got a good discount on top of the sale since it was the display model. That was 27 years ago and is the same tree we use now. I think back then it was listed around $130 and I bought it for around $65.

nope I don't have the pine smell. I don't have the needles falling off or have to get rid of it when finished for the year. It has been much more cost effective

Trees are a pagan ritual. Always had a real tree here. Tradition. I don't consider myself a pagan though I am sure Mark June is not the only one who does. I like Christmas. Wonderful family get together and I enjoy the grandkids. May not even have a tree this year.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I'd be good with skipping the tree, but the wife, kids and granddaughter will have none of that!

Don't waste them! Best trapline visual there is. Put the used Christmas tree a little ways out in a field and every passing predator will check it out. Get several and use them as a corral in the woods and snare the openings with bait in the corral center.

Hard to find a GOOD wild tree....Friend of mine would cut 2 and tie them together good sides out.
I've cut red cedars when the kids were young, the price was right....
Nowadays I do like my grandma did, snap off a branch from the spruce tree in the yard, stick it in a flower pot, tie a red ribbon on it and done....!!! grin

Long ago there was an old man that had a patch of cedars. He saw a guy dragging one out to his truck. The old man went down there to see who he was. In the process when the guy got the first tree to the truck he didn't think it was very good so he went back and got another one so his wife could have a choice of the two. When the owner got there and seen the guy had two, he told him he didn't mind if he took one, but why be a hog and get two. The guy told him it was for Charity, the owner said in that case it was all right go ahead and take two.
The guy who took the trees wife was named Charity. He was bragging down at a club how he had fooled the old guy.

Fake trees are not a part of this conversation.

I cut mine on either our land or USFS. Years past I would once and a while poach one; glad to have that off my conscience.

Well said!
