12” of snow and below zero weather have put a end to the waterfowl season up here. Didn’t post pics right away hoping for a thaw but it’s clearly not coming now till spring.
Few pics from the last couple days of hunting, seems the best duck hunting memories always come when a guy can no longer feel the tips of his fingers and when your waders have frozen into a popsicle making a guy walk like a penguin.

Nice. I miss waterfowl hunting.

Tray, do you get many of the diving ducks? Or just golden eyes?

Yes we get good numbers of divers, had days with several hundred bluebills decoy but limit is only 1 so just get to sit and watch. Good numbers of Canvasbacks and Redheads earlier in season.

Were you getting those greenwings later in season?

yes the numbers of scaup sure have gone down from years ago.
In Manitoba they have now switched over to feeding on large collections of zebra mussels in Lake Winnipeg. Last week there were flocks of 10,000 birds at several locations. It is very unfortunate because of the heavy metal concentrations in those mussels.

Both big water and small sloughs.
It was an odd year for them as we had large numbers up till end of season. Shot a lot of them over diver decoys this year.

I know we have had some studies going on down here testing for that. Several years ago I had to shoot some hen Scaup during spring migration for researchers to test for metals and pesticides. Wanting to see conditions of hens before they started nesting.

Not many ducks on my lake this season and the geese missed us so far, those flu carrying sky carp can keep on flying! LOL

Seems like it doesn’t get good until the dekes have frozen runny nose bills.

VA is just now getting some truly cold weather. Watching wood ducks in the swamp as I’m deer hunting right now.

Looks like y’all had some great hunts. Congrats.

I hunt with a Chesse, sadly she has lost all her night vision and is slowly losing day vision.

Yes, Blue-wings are an early season duck usually only get a week or so before they migrate out.
Green wings are mid to late season duck here, drakes aren’t usually colored out till towards the end of season.
