Cwd takes 1.5-2 years to show outward symptoms and kill deer. The "survival rate" you cited is likely an exerpt from a recent Wisconsin DNR study on cwd, in which the survival rate through the winter was reported on. Cwd is a Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies, (meaning it causes microscopic holes to form in the brain). This leads to a gradual cognitive decline, making deer act dumb, thus making infected deer more vulnerable to vehicles, hunters, and increased predation.

With regards to cwd vs EHD, you are comparing apples to oranges. One kills a lot of deer quickly, one kills the herd over time

I remember when it was exposed here in WI. It was most likely to have been here for quite some time before they finally came out and announced it. Decades later, the herd is doing just fine. Some areas reported lower numbers after a couple years of people filling 6 tags per year just because the could. Before that it was only one buck tag and and a doe tag if you got drawn by the lottery after paying your 2 bucks for a doe tag application.

Thanks for the biology lesson. But I know the difference. I know the causes. If it is such a deadly and fast moving issue why are there record numbers of deer EXCEPT where EHD has shown up. My point is FWD does nothing pertaining to EHD. Where are the areas that herds are wiped out by CWD? The ONE deer that tested positive was a healthy doe with no symptoms that was harvested by a hunter. Just how many foxes or yotes do you think would be carrying rabies if people started testing. Heck test for cancer cells in humans. Like I said before can’t transport deer. Can’t put out mineral. Stop doing the same for cattle.
