There were a few smart ones that slipped away. But he'll be home for Christmas break soon and they ain't safe. He's been a rabbit slayer since he got his first .22 at 5 years old.

It's a lot of fun, and rabbit breakfast sausage is better than whole hog sausage.

Last time I shot a bunch was probably 25 years ago and they were all FULL of fleas. Did these have any?

That’s a great hunt for jump shooting. I couldn’t imagine us getting numbers like that without dogs.

For fleas, my rabbits were loaded with them when I bought the farm 7 years ago. Some old times told me about sulfer salt blocks. I break each 50lb block into 4 with a maul and place them throughout the farm. May be coincidence, but I haven’t seen a flea on a rabbit since. We average >60 each year.

I remember when we had a rabbit population like yours around here. It was nothing for 4-5 guys to go out and fill their limits of four each in a morning just by kicking brush.

I really miss those days.

I miss those days also Lugnut. I remember our best day was 3 guys and no dog. We jumped 54 rabbits , shot our limit of 4 and had a fantastic day doing it. Used to gut them, cut a little slit by the back legs and hang them on our belts. Grandsons aren't into it at all. If it doesn't have horns or turkey feathers there not into to it.

Seven more hunts like that and you could fill several freezers

We did a little hunt around the house yesterday evening. Got 3 missed a couple. We were out less than an hour. Daughter and son in law had just sighted in a new .22 and were happy with the results.
