An older member on my 866 acre lease hunted an out of the way cut-over corner of the lease this afternoon. This ol'boy presented himself just before dark. Called me to help get him out. I wasnt much help, so called my son. He & DIL did most of the 350+ yds drag thru that tangled bottom.

I did'nt look at his jawbone but based on body size for this area...4.5 years old.

He looks younger than that in the pics, but these Deep South deer are sleeker and thin-haired compared to their northern or Midwestern counterparts.

No....I dont hunt much on that lease. I handle the annual paperwork, set the rules, & try to keep the members happy, but I spend most of my efforts on my other lease (400 acres with no members.)

Have 7 members on the lease where this buck was killed and they put a little pressure on it. It's 866 acres and all riverbottom....no high ground that won't flood. They usually kill several bucks per season and some years we've seen a couple of the same bucks on both leases as they are only 1/4 of a mile apart...corner to corner, but on opposite sides of the river.

The members all run cameras and b4 I retired they shared pics with me. Now, they don't share because they know I can hunt when they're not here......lol. They are all LE officers or retired officers from central Florida.

So the residents of Georgia have to compete with non residents to use that lease? Do Georgia hunting regs apply on private property? Non res pays more for a license and deer tag?
If a buck that size is drug to the road, is it gutted first?

Congrats, that's a dandy!

I lease the property for hunting/fishing from the timber company that owns the land. Ive had this tract leased for 18 years. A $$/acre rate is billed annually. This tract is close to $12/acre...you can do the math. To pay the annual lease payment I chose to take on members. Their annual dues pay the lease payment. With their annual membership they have the privilege to hunt and fish the property. This is how most hunt leases work. There are ONLY 8 people that have legal access to the property....7 members that I selected and myself. Only competition is between us and its just friendly hunt camp stuff. I will have the exclusive hunting/fishing rights to this tract as long as I can come up with the annual $$...or the landowner decides to sell the land.

Georgia hunting regs apply everywhere in Georgia...private or public.

Non-residents pay more for their licenses...as in every other US state.

That buck was gutted to lighten the load some, but we usually do not gut.
