I'm wondering if anyone has used bacon grease either as an attractant for predators OR included in their lure ingredients?
Thanks for the info~

If I give everything ~ is it enough?

When I first started trapping, I dipped some sticks in bacon grease and stuck the other end in mud, in shallow water, with a Duke 1 1/2 submerged near them. I did catch some coon that way, but they mostly just stole the sticks. I didn't know much about blocking then. With blocking, I would probably had a pretty decent ratio, but there are much better sets for coon.

Try it and see. Then you'll know. Good luck.

I think at a good location you could catch coon using just about anything. I never used bacon grease for anything but frying eggs or greasing a piece bread to make sandwich.
I would have to look in my old trapping books. Do recall a old time fox set made using g crackling. Would think bacon grease probably work the same.
Like others said far better choices.

I have used it in the early season for no other reason then a change-up i make a hole set and smear the grease at the top of the hole
just before i leave i take my small pocket torch and scortch it to liquid from the top and outside the hole all the way to the bottom if the set is made where coons walk near it they will not pass it by
Canines react the same when you allow them to taste some they just wont leave the one problem i have found was it doesnt store very well on the shelf without over time becoming rancid

I used bacon grease smeared into the bark of a black oak with a single long spring laid underneath it to catch my first grey fox back in the early 80’s. I still mix it with cat food for DP’s but it is messy.

I used to use it at dirtholes fairly often. Had really good luck on coons, skunks, and fox with it. Caught the occasional coyote on it too. I'm not a good enough coyote trapper to say that it was good for them though.

Use it and other FRIED greases from meals ie. pork chops, chicken, salmon etc.
I use it in my Coni-boxes. Put in a veggie can and place in my freezer. When I am
ready to use take it out place in the box, set body gripper in front and go. Catch lots
of coon, possum and skunk with the occasional coyote.

I oftennused it early season to clear out the trash critters so they wouldn't plug up my yote traps later in the season.
