Simple question, mainly pertaining to smart fones

Is it worth the aggravation and the hacking these days

I tire of the spam calls all day, they got my number from somewhere

I don't get many calls from anyone anymore so why keep the fone ?

It's got to the point where the fone is more offa pain than it's worth

I honestly think that we are worse off because of the proliferation of technology, especially internet usage. I am certain some will disagree.

They are just a tool. The users are the problem. I think parents give them to their children at too young of an age.

… once Mr Paul kicks me off here … I won’t have much use for this smart phone

… other than family and work of course

They have certainly dumbed us down and made people more lazy.

Just stop and think about how many phone numbers and addresses you had memorized pre cell phone.
Now we look them up at our finger tips. Some people even tell their device to call whomever.or give directions to wherever.

As much as this pains me, I completely agree with you. The device itself is fantastic, especially for maps, directions, finding phone numbers, etc. The problem with them is that people forget where the power button is and never shut them off. Any spare second they have, out comes the phone to be entertained. Kids will take a trip across the country and never once look out the window at places they have never seen before.

I have nothing clever to put here.

yes in many ways

no in a few.

it's a tool and it is how you use it

I would suggest you put everyone you know in your phone with a ringer you pick up my kids have a ringer , my parents have a ringer , my friends have a ringer , my wife had the loudest most annoying ringer of all so I was sure to answer her call.

and make your default either silent or some very minimal ring and they can leave a message , just make sure your voice mail is set up.

the number of people I see txt and drive or watching the screen and drive is insane , that is one of the many hurts , people feel they need to be glued to every message and the device is built to overload you with them.

so there are useful tools , have a set of cameras that motion detect and alert your phone you can see what is near the chickens before you get out of bed , you can even turn on a light and siren.

my mom has a set of temp probes that are wireless and the little box/charger sets next to the stove and is on wifi , set the alarm on her phone to alert when the roast reached temp , could sit and play cards and know exactly when the meat was done from the other room and we didn't have over cooked roast

I have a similar set that I opted not to get the wifi option so the alarm is on the box not my phone but it limits how far I go from the kitchen to hear it.

my phone connects to my truck , it is one of the earlier models with this in 2013 but it works well I am driving down the road , i hit a button on the dash to answer and I just talk to the truck the conversation is over the speakers and I can keep my eyes on the road

file sharing , easier than ever to share recipes I just share them on it in google docs and they have it and any corrections or new notes I make later.

like a chainsaw , very powerful tool but you need to be cautious how you use it , because it has great power for good or injury

now the multitude of videos can share good information but at the same time be a huge time suck , it is how you use it.

needed to look up part numbers or a video on how to change something in the parking lot while away from home has saved a huge amount of time fixing cars and other equiptment , you can download the manual and read it right there.

They are just a tool, true. Bur our brains, both kids and adults,, but especially kids, aren't able to handle it. They're literally like a drug, and have the same addictive processes as drugs in our brains. And it's not an accident, they're designed to be addictive. Every little ding and notification delivers a dose of serotonin to your reward centers in your brain and creates an addiction to the reward, and it's on purpose. Tech companies have people on their staff who's whole job is to make their product more addictive . They study how pleasure and reward works in the brain and work this research into their product. There's plenty of literature out there about all this.

I found a few good uses for the phone
I no longer write notes when outdoors trapping hunting or fishing or whatever
I use the voice recorder on the phone, I can write all of that information down later when I'm not trying to save time.

My phone is my Internet, I don't have a home computer
I've ever downloaded predator calls and used my phone and been successful using it

And for whatever reason I don't seem to be bothered by spam or pop-ups

I agree many of the social media are dangerously addictive especially to children and teens.

Technology has made things harder nothing easy or simple about if you don’t speak the geek. Some YouTube videos help but some show you one thing but you never get the same thing they pointed out when you follow those steps. mad
