I'm 56 yo and have not trapped since I was in high school. Back then, I only trapped ditch critters. Moving from southern Indiana to western KY a few years ago, I have regained an interest in trapping for Bobcats, primarily. I have permission to hunt and trap a 900 acre cattle farm that is thick with Coyote and Bobcat. I plan on starting next season and need to start gathering supplies... If you could only utilize one trap (style, size, brand etc.) for both species what would it be; and why? Thank you!

That's are hard question. But here setting with the chance at either I would use my #3 Bridgers that are outside laminated 4 coil. To many good choices out there. This trap has the reach if we get any amount of snow on them.

I would go down a notch, a tricked out #2 bridger

550 2 coil trap is a good all around trap for most predators. Its sturdy and easy to bed. I only use size 3 traps for trail sets when the situation presents itself.

You, want some MB 550's, 2 coiled, with offset jaws.

They are easy on animal's feet and it's easy to release non target animals.

i agee with mr Jamison as well as mr Mccary if theres a chance that non-target domestics might get tangled up the 550 two coil is plenty a trap in temps that are above 32 degrees
but if you receive any consistant depth of snow i would lean toward the 3s with 4coil

I caught most of what PA has to offer with the #2 Northwoods, not sure what compares that is available today? That would be my pick.

I would ask Stew (coon creek outdoors) and go with what he says.

I always liked #2 bridgers. If you have any grey fox they're still a little rough on them but not near as bad as #3's

Coyote and cat sets get a number 3. If you can afford it sterling mj600. mb650 cast is good too and laminated works. They bed easy. Both jaws lock down. Real fast closing. Duke makes some very serviceable traps at a very reasonable cost. If you don't want to spend a lot buy Dukes is my advice.

Wolf Creek is a northwoods copy as is the bridger and the duke copy of the bridger.

Fully modified #3 Montana, but I had them before the MN brand came out and have never used them.
