Just wondering if anybody uses their 330's for cats. Whether its in a box or a cubby.
Also would I be wrong for putting a foothold infront of the cubbies for either a shy cat or a second?
Thanks

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

To big to use in this state. Put a trap in front of what you are using for a cubby. Place stepping sticks down so the step right in the traps.

A foothold placed in front of the box and one either on the side of the box or behind the box, would be much more effective than a conibear. You can get them with 220's, but you'll have some refusals. If you use a conibear, put a wood plate on the trigger wires and bend them into the box. They seem to enter them better, and they fire the trap with their chin or chest.

MT Wolf trapper on YouTube just did a video on using 330's for cats. He checked w/ game warden and they say its legal. Interesting set. He hasn't posted about checking the line yet.

it seems like a pretty good set up where 330 are legal to use basically a running pole set

I have found where a 280 works better as it usually results in a neck strike. Conibear triggers are hard on the fairly delicate cat hide. Also, have the trap at the very front of the cubby with little to no recess and the trigger wires "leaning" a bit towards the outside of the cubby. In MT, as long as you are on private property all sizes of conibears are legal to be set on the ground.

you should always try to make a dogless set when possible even if its legal to do so setting a 330 on land is deadly for dogs even on private land the farmers dog even the neighbors could make you loose a prime location

I'm going to have to re-read the regs. I knew 110s, 120's and maybe 160's were legal on land but I thought anything bigger had to be submerged.

In the video he talked about 48 inches off the ground. And a phone call to the warden to check.
