I have never seen any black buzzards around my area. Particularly in the winter months. I see plenty of turkey buzzards regularly due to the odor coming from our business and trout rendering process.

[Linked Image]

Generally we don't see any turkey buzzards until late Spring and they are local until late fall. They usually migrate before cold weather sets in.

Yesterday morning I glanded out 2 otter carcass' a friend had in his freezer from last season and a fisher a buddy dropped off. I took them out below our main building to put them in our carcass dump area. I then went back to work, nothing different about this day.

Later that day I went out to the house to print some labels and when walking back to the shop I noticed all these large birds perched in some trees just off our power line right of way. They stuck out against the dark blue sky in the background.

I also noticed a few on the ground near the area I put those carcass'. There appeared to be a large number of birds, maybe 15 or 20.

At first I thought they may be Ravens due to the size and color. However, as I walked closer I still couldn't ID them. I got fairly close to them and could see them well. I thought, where did they come from. I got to see their heads very well and was surprised what I was seeing.

To my surprise the next morning, " this morning" walking over to our facility, I thought I would walk over to check on the carcass area out of curiosity. All signs of the carcass' were gone except for lots of white wash looking droppings all over the ground. Nothing was left, everything was cleaned up.

The combined weight of those carcass' was likely 35 -40 + pounds easy. The birds were gone.

I ran to the local post office mid morning today and on the way I spotted that "same flock" most likely, very near the post office. All perched low above a small local trout stream in the trees. They were so close to the road I was able to pull over and observe them for a few minutes. I got a real good look at them this time.

I didn't notice any dead animals in sight but could have very well been something that I couldnt see. They were probably about 3 miles from where they were at our place. Looks as if they were following the stream and road which run side by side for several miles.

I’ve seen more of them in Brownsville than anywhere else when we go out your way Bob. I see a lot more hawks it seems too

You won't have to see any dead animals with these buzzards , they will take care of that. them things will kill newborn calves i seen it in real time .and will really work on trapped animals.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I started seeing some Black Buzzards in South East, Ohio, over 15 years ago, there were none up here. About 4 years ago they showed up here. There are more here every year now. We have always had a lot of the bigger, turkey vultures.

Very destructive birds. Nephew had them rip the top of his trailer roof apart.

Livestock owners may shoot them here with a depredation permit. They are year round residents. I would guess there are more black vultures than turkey vultures

Nothing new in winter here,
not every year tho.
They are easily spooked off
by me and the dog.

Glad to hear of a season (manage).
They take more than deads.

Window seal and wiper blade rubber, and rubber roofing on the top of a power control room building at a hydroelectric dam.
They actually eat it.
Don't ever pick one up by its white feet. Their feet are supposed to be black...

If I had cows I would shoot the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)

No protection down here, ranchers kill them on site. Especially the ones who have lost calves or had to put down a cow with her rear end chewed out

Yep, we got the black buzzards here now in Missouri. Totally different than the turkey buzzards which have been here forever. I see a LOT of them down on the river.
Yes, we have some kind of special season on them. I don't know all the particulars but you send in application for a permit and I 'think' you can kill up to ten per year.
A couple of Aprils ago I was pulled over in my truck watching a doe in a hay field protect her new born fawn against a gaggle of those **** things. A black buzzard would rush the fawn and the doe would chase it off. Then the other buzzards would try to crowd in when the doe was occupied. This went on and on as long as I watched it. I don't know who won in the end. Probably the buzzards.
Nature ain't always pretty. .

Been round here my whole life, definitely can be a nuisance. They can smell too, carcass covered in leaves and if it starts to smell a little they’re on it
