I absolutely love shooting in a plinking style. Random targets within 100 yards, safe firing areas with appropriate backstops, of course. Works the fundamentals of grip, control of sight to eye, and one, two, three on target. I practice most commonly with rimfire, but use the same practice with my big bore hunting rifles and other things and stuff.

Anyone do similar? We used to practice shooting moving targets with plywood disks fitted inside tires that were rolled down hills. Someone had to roll the tire and then get behind terrain, lol….\

hardly ever, a tiny bit shooting thrown objects in the air with a 22, not as hard as you'd think...but too cheap to continue, lol

My favorite was to go to the river when i!t was high after a rain, never knew what target was going to come floating past or how far out.

Everyone should grow up walking around the farm almost everyday with a bb gun picking out random targets and hitting them. 1,000's of BB's Im sure.

There is something to be said for picking a platform with all that practice that carrys it on into other cals too... I wish I would have spent more time with that, makes the larger cals feel like home.

Always did and still do except now it's BB and pellet guns mostly because where we live. Get out to the farm 6, 8 times a year and turn loose the bigger stuff.

When weather permits, not snowing or raining absolutely love getting out and putting rounds down range, for rim fire built a frame to hold swinging golf balls and plink away at them watching them spin around the frame while others at the range are shooting and happy with saucer sized groups or just out burning rounds. For centerfire everything goes into one of these feel if can't consistently hit this either don't need to be shooting or need different gun/ load

I used to shot a lot. Have had a place to shoot at home since I moved out of my dad's as a kid. First place was only 50 yards, first house I bought I had 100 yard range, now at the farm I have 500 yard range. And I hardly shoot at all any more. Have not been wanting to spend the cash( I have at least 2 kids that will be pulling triggers) or the time. Funny just last night I told my wife I needed to start doing some shooting. I have 9k+ rounds 20 mm ammo can full of cci sv I won't hunt with I need to burn up. Would be fun to run them through my old savage 62 and see if i can get the worn trigger parts to fail. Then send it in and see if they will warranty repair the old thing.

I used to have fun shooting carpenter bees out of the air with my supressed mark 2 pistol .22 rifle and later switched to bb gun so I didn't have to watch the shot direction as much. That was fun.

we used to write our initials, split a bullet on an axe blade to hit two cards at once, split cards on edge, draw a face and those kind of trick shots they used to do. Lots of fun

The boys and I like walking through the woods and shooting at random targets. I'll pick out a leaf, dirt clump, rock, stick, etc and see if they can hit it. I have my oldest boy switch from right to left handed occasionally, and make them both shoot from different positions. It's definitely improved their shooting abilities, and it's just plain fun.

I like the fun factor also. The formalities of shooting at the local range coupled with the congestion at times make it not my cup of tea. Plus people get irritated when I start shooting rocks at 50 yards with high power rifles. I like picking out potato sized ones and making them smaller at 50’ish yards and beyond, lol…

Plink a lot in the summers. Just informal walkabouts shooting various targets...It's therapeutic.

At the blackpowder range, we've got about a dozen and a half steel gong type targets. Way more fun to shoot at those than paper bulls-eye's all the time.

I spent a lot of time as a kid with soda cans and a BB gun. Would shoot em until I cut them in half. Now we do that with the muzzleloaders and 2x4's.

.22 plinking with suppressed pistols and rifles makes me giggle with joy.

We used .22's, freehand.

We'd shoot down the river and see how many times it skipped. Mostly 4 to 5 times but had more skips once in awhile. Hard to see the last ones that were about 3/4 mile away.

I'd be scared to do that anymore

And how about the dumps shooting rats at night? Great fun and you had to hit them square on to kill um the bb guns of the 50's. of course we grew up and now go hopper hunting i late summer, no ground blasting, only flying. that's more funner.......jk

Love blinking with ww2 bolt guns... takes me back to last century, when surplus guns and ammo were cheap and plentiful.

Yeppers was just doing this the other day while I was putting a LPVO in one of dads gun , slapping life sized steel with some dirt cheap ammo and a mutt of a gun is a nice change of pace from chasing groups and load development

Always find it interesting how something can group terrible on paper but will go 10/10 on steel ... Make you realize sub MOA necessity....can be a bit overrated

Yup!! It's weird how I might be way off on paper but every little patch of snow, piece of wood, or clay pigeon gets annihilated confused

Won't say I was off once I adjusted over from the first two but still 4 rounds in like a 3" group is kinda sick but he'll when you really look at it , most "small" targets most guys are gonna shoot are 3-4" so for practical shooting ...it's usable lol

I like to plink

we often get to more of a challenge or how do we set it up to force learning

like you have to keep walking while shooting 5 targets 2 rounds each that are spread out and how fast and accurate can you be

spent 12ga hulls often ended up targets , set them on weeds or sturdy grass then had to hit them with a 22 pistol

of course also cans and such and I love steel

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I’ve come to really enjoy staying proficient with a handgun, so I set up a small range at the back of my property. Sometimes just 1 magazine does the trick to “grease the groove”.
