PF, I hope your son doesn't pay attention to the jack arse. That 8 pointer looks like a nice buck to me. Taller brow tines and decent mass. It's nothing to sneeze at IMO. The old guy's probably been a bitter dipstick his whole life.
Now days I do tend to let 1.5 year old deer go and usually 2.5 as well. I have passed on decent 2.5 Y/O bucks waiting for something a bit bigger and regretted it. Especially when I don't get a shot at a doe which makes me have egg on my face and that's happened a few times.

Sure not Oregon. Where i live you only get a tag every 2 to 3 years. I had a tag this year, hunted 11 days never seen a buck. Too many lions and wolves, of course the politicians protect them

Indiana has a lot b of public land.. We hunt public a lot. Deer pop goes up and down ehd is hard on it. Place the boys always shoot 2 to 4 youth weekend the last 4 or 5 years we hunted it one morning and didn't have enough signed that we bothered to hunt it again the rest of the year. All the runs were grown up. Don't think I saw but one or two tracks. Hoosier national is 200 thousand acres from. The Ohio River to potoaka lake. They're are many more 20k + down to a hundred acre pieces of property. But some is broken up and has a lot of private land mixed in with it wo knowing where your at is the friendly thing to keep im mind.

I have always thought we have good hunting. But dont know any different so take it for what its worth.

Georgia gives you 12 tags when you buy a license. There are several other opportunities available to get extra deer. Only downside is leases are about the only way to get on private land here. Seems like everyone either hunts or has someone who hunts their place. But public opportunities abound and in a 10 day hunt you could legally kill 16 deer if you line it up right. Not saying it would be that easy to do, but the possibility is there

There were two bucks in the yard yesterday,
one had a soft ball size thing hanging.
Was a time those got culled.
Now they are future trophies on camera.

To be honest, I got tired of dragging them out! My family took 16 does and 3 bucks this year. The total for the entire property was 4 bucks and 42 does. I was even offered 3 other properties for CJ to come shoot does and a buck, lol. I told them we needed to take deer off our property first!!

I haven’t deer hunted public land in years and don’t even put in for hunts anymore, but when I did I always saw and killed deer.

Don’t even think about NM this state is the most anti hunter I have ever seen. I’ve lived here 45 year. Trust me this state is anti sportsman, anti conservation.

I’m sure someone else already answered this, but for me it’s simple…..food first and foremost…..and a little fun I guess to. My buddy who lives in lower Michigan put 7 in the freezer this year and he will eat every bit of it. He’s hunts private row crop farming areas where he has permission from friends. When he pulled his cameras the other day he scared 35 deer off one field and he said on the other side of the woodlot there were 40+ out on that field. He can buy unlimited number of doe tags and gets to shoot two bucks each year. SO jealous of you folks who have the deer to stack up like this and not have to buy other meat at all.

In my perfect world right now I’d like to make 25 lbs bratwurst, 25 lbs breakfast sausage, 25 lbs snack sticks, 25 lbs polish, and 25 lbs jerky each year in addition to roasts, loins, and 100+ lbs of burger each year. Once my kids are a couple years older I’m sure I’ll be wanting more than that as they’re 5 and 7 right now.

Happy trapping! ScottW

Lugnut I disagree with you n this " state has 1.5 million acres of public State Game Lands managed by the Game Commission that are dedicated to hunting and trapping." I think it is managed for timber. If it was for deer they would have much more timber harvesting. A lot of the land is mature forest with no yearly mast crop. Just my opinion.....jk

Me too! Either those dummies are greedy turds or they know very little about whitetail deer population dynamics....

....or BOTH!

Deer are easy to kill in ND, but getting a tag can be hard anymore. I have gone four years without one, so far this stretch. I went six years one time. I figure they will give out less tags next season from what I can see. I thought about not applying after the next one. It is real hard for me to get excited about hunting deer.

You can kill as many deer in Iowa as you could eat in several years. ... if you don't get caught. laugh
