Trapping takes me back to simpler times and being connected of the natural ecosystem. I love the challenge, the solitude, the heritage, passing it on to my boys. I love the grind, the mud and muck, the smell of skunk and castor, holding onto a “dying art,” the traps themselves fascinate me, the critters are beautiful, I love working with the fur and using a God-given resource. I feel connected to those trappers in the early 1800s and the adventure. If there was only one outdoor activity I could pick it would be trapping for sure.

Its always been for me tricking the critter on his own turf as well as the smell of quill and the sourness of swamp mud

Agree with the new troll it could be !
In reality , being in touch with the world is the most important!
If every kid worked on a farm just one summer, they would have a better sense of reality.

I'm betting the latter. See her previous posts.

This could explain it better than anyone.
Because it's actually happening right now!

I like the feeling of outsmarting a crafty critter, and there's nothing like the feeling of hanging up a fur on a stretcher and sitting back and observing the result of an hour or two of combing, washing, skinning, and fleshing. And being so close to a live animal.

Trapping tends to help a person fine tune their senses in the outdoors. I know I have seen, smelled, heard, and participated in many aspects of nature that are too-often overlooked by others. Ever since I was a little kid I have loved the smell of Fox when they were active in the fields and marshes around my house. I still do at 72 years old.
