I picked hp some sunflower seeds to feed the birds. We dont feed them typically until weather is bad. Put corn and bail or 2 of alfalfa out for deer when its bad and seasion is over.

Funny to hear that. I just looked out my window. A large limb broke off a week or so ago on our flowering crab tree. There are two deer out there nibbling on the limbs right now in the middle of the afternoon. So, they must be hungry like you said.

Stop giving them free benefits and they will deport themselves.

Where did you hear or learn that millet was a replacement for grit? I can't say I ever heard that before.

I had a big Tom turkey in the apple tree 8 feet from the house today. He scared the snot out of me when I went outside. He acted funny, never ran and just took a few wobbly steps and then sat down in the sun. At first I thought it was sick or injured. Then I realized he was just drunk on fermented apples. In an hour he was just fine.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Game and fish told me that food without grit material is not helpful made sense to me food is food it can’t hurt.

Millet is food, it is a seed. Grit is rock. I don't think millet can replace grit. Any and all seed eating birds need grit to help grind seeds in their gizzards.

There’s a lot to feeding wildlife in the winter deer are especially complex with their digestive system changing from summer feed to winter browse is a process the same happens in the spring change over again even the dropping change.

Just because the weather gets better doesn’t mean they are not out of danger yet, it’s all about absorbing nutrients the intake. That came from a wildlife biologist I worked for doing wildlife cuts in MI.

Take it for what it’s worth.

I think you misunderstood something the G&F said. You say with out grit material the food is not helpful, so you give them more feed? I am not sure where I went. I ask a question and your answer is, you are not surprised I went there. If there is enough of us to have a club, maybe its not us?

I feel the thing I have a problem with is things that don't add up. How is adding feed a solution to not having grit? I was not there, but what they wanted was you to give them more food because without grit it is not helping, that makes no sense. You said that millet replaced grit. I still can't see how.

Cheap bird seed mix contains very hard seeds softer feeds are crushed by the hard seeds.

It’s hard to take you serious with that tag line you go out of your way to live up to it try or don’t it doesn’t matter to me.

So now seed eating birds don't need grit. It seems like they do to me, you said the G&F said the food was not helpful with out it. Did they say you can replace grit with millet? Some whiney trapper could not take the truth, and said that, so I copied it and pasted it below my name. I thought it was funny and laughed out load. I do that often when people say stuff that doesn't make sense. I can not remember who he was at this point. I don't even know if he is still on here, its kind of a shame.

You don’t understand the concept of hard seeds mashing softer seeds in the gizzard really? So the gizzards know gravel from hard seeds good to know. LOL
