The friendly neighborhood Coopers Hawk comes in fast and low and explodes one pretty regularly.

LOL, When you feed the birds, you feed ALL the birds. grin

Had a Coopers hawk use my house as a blocker.... it would come in from behind the house, shoot up over the roof and be on the birds before they could react....clever bugger....

I have been teaching them to do tricks for food, here they are learning to build a dove pyramid to look in the kitchen window to beg for more bird seed.

There was one sitting in my drive way frozen dead with snow drifting around it last night... sad.

Found out they are not the bird of peace I have been led to believe. Had a red bellied woodpecker harassing one of them and it pecked the woodpecker on the head. Woodpecker flew into the tree and attacked the dove from above. Before I knew what was going on the dove had the red belly pinned down just wearin him out. Even the jays are giving the doves space. On a good day we have 6 doves that come in to feed among the others. We do however have at least 75 Finches feeding here. The hawk comes in from behind the house and trys to knock a few of them down then sees if it can grab 1. Sort of funny to watch. Our squirrels all hop around with there tails up over there backs. The hawk comes in and grabs that tail and all heck breaks loose. Most times the squirrel gets free then up the closest tree and won't shut up foe at least 15 minutes.. My wife has a heated birdbath that the birds will flock to. Yep, the hawk knows right where that's at also. I don't have to know when the hawks around. The birds just totally disappear.
