How tough is the drive to Fairbanks area from Bellingham WA .
I will be pulling a trailer with 10K pounds max.
I know winter conditions are a factor so plan to travel in a month or so.
Thanks in advance

It can be real tuff. It is winter. There is no predictability to weather/road conditions. (note: how accurate are weather predictors ant ways?) Tire chains and trailer bakes are a must. Very little services in the Yukon.

Life is hard. It's even harder if your stupid!

don't try and tow up here in the winter......period.....road maintenance sucks and when you hit the ditch tows are 5000$ +....think ice with snowstorms and zero cell coverage...very long distances between towns...like 500 miles....avoid at all costs...

X2. I have done it a couple times and March was the worst. Places like Trutch Mountain can be particularly hairy.

Wait until may or june.

Easy-peazy, just use common sense. Just did it in mid December. Towing Skid steer and excavator. 50 below for 900 miles, good traction at that temperature. Drive to road conditions, the brakes are not your friend.

GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable

I've not driven that road. But don't just bring chains for your truck. Trailer brakes are NOT you friend on ice unless you have chains on the trailer.

Take the ferry from Bellingham, then stay in Haines until May. Will be a beautiful drive by then.

Just doing what I want now.

I have driven the Alcan 5 times, 4 in the spring, summer, or fall, no accidents. Just did my first winter trip during the deep cold that gripped the north in late December and early January... will never do a winter trip again. In a half ton 4x4 pick up pulling a 6x12 cargo trailer. Crossed into Canada in Washington, planned on three days driving 12.5 hours each day. It wound up taking 18 hours of driving a day, terrible weather, few gas stations open, our heater core plugged up the first day, it was -54 the day we rolled into Fairbanks, we were driving with a window rolled halfway down to keep our breath from frosting the inside of the windshield. I had a schedule to keep, no mechanics in Canada could work on it due to the backlog of breakdowns due to record breaking cold. It was miserable. If I had not had an electric brake controller, we would have jackknifed umpteen million times, especially in south and central BC.

I towed a boat up the Fraser canyon just a couple hundred miles one February, that was enough for me; white knuckles for miles and miles.
