Is there a supposed weight rating or tolerance on the split rings used for trap connectors? Any difference between the medium and large split rings other than the diamater?

Thanks

I learnt my lesson wirh split rings back in the late 70s. Lost a couple dozen traps and coons. Strong S hooks work well.

Carolina Foxer,
For coyotes (or the possibility of a large domestic)...I'd NEVER use split rings.

3/16" quick links will never let you down. Tighten them snug with pliers.

I know the “Hoosier Trapper supply” boys run them in their YouTube videos and don’t seem to have any issues! I have notice that they sometimes use two split rings on the chain though

I've had 2 different grades of split rings. One was good and quality metal the other you could open up setting a Berkshire stake on a dog proof. NEVER AGAIN! Use quick links.

They make for a fast connection on water sets. I never lost a critter with them on land sets but after I pulled the 2nd one apart just retrieving anchors I decided they were not a good option

Been using them since the early 80s. Never welded them shut, (defeats the purpose), lots of Cats , coyotes, fox, and even 1 Great Pyranise, never an issue. Proper chain with shocks must help.

Whatever I use it’s welded s hook/lap link if it’s made to go on something it can come off until you change that by welding it in place. Just my thought I remove with bolt cutters the fasteners are cheap by the hundreds. Cold weather here makes messing with little things difficult on the line as the fine motor skills are the first to go in freezing weather.

I use them on all my 1 stoploss to add a cable with loops to add chain length and easy stake attachment. I also use them on my 1.5 coils that I ad chain to. I use the larger ones that we used in our tie stalls for cows. Don't have any on my canine traps.
