Talk to me about jadg terriers. Im looking at getting one for a trapline,tracking dog i live in an area it can exercise easily. I have had hounds, pointers, labs. Anyone take them and work coyote dens?

Not sure what you mean by working coyote dens, but if its what i think, its certainly not legal in these parts...

Pawnee and MJM have both posted on here about jagdterriers before. I have looked into getting one quite a bit. At one point a Missouri breeder was thinking about trading me a couple of pups for some homing pigeons, but it fell through. We talked about them a lot. He had to carry a shovel when he ran them, because he sometimes had to dig them out of a hole. They are super gritty and very high drive. I worry that they would be incompatible with our cats.

I looked at patterdales too. I like the look of jagdterriers better. I think both may be too aggressive for me.

I bought catahoulas, when my feist died of old age. I think I am going to go with feists again, when my catahoulas get old. I think feists likely have a better handle than jagdterriers.

I had one. They are a lot like any dog, each has it own thing. They have a strong drive to hunt from the time they are pups. I started hunting mine at about seven weeks. They track well. Mine would den anything. The more time you spend with one the better it will be. The more you hunt one the better it will hunt. They are happiest wore out.

Everyone i know that's got one or two, or have had one.
Have liked them, and mjm said there happy worked hard and played out.

I want one some day.

As said above they are high energy but well mannered. Rem is with me all day at the farm, on the trap line, or out hunting birds. She is on the small side and she’s not afraid of anything. I figure that a big male coyote will get her someday. I do have to protect her from herself in some situations and she will drive you absolutely nuts in the tractor if there are rabbits or any wildlife.

This is JMO, I would not trust ANY Terrier around any little kids that are the age they cannot walk yet. Terriers are very hi strong. Never had a problem with them but I kept a very close eye on them. I had a Jack Russell. Great dogs!

Been around Jack russels and airdales and have a 12 yr old 50/50 jagd patterdale cross. Strong prey drive that can get them in trouble. Mine is more in and out on dangerous game now but when she was younger more like a bullet straight at anything. Shes only 17lbs, so i tried to keep her from getting tore up. If its an indoor dog, make sure you dont have any mice rattling around in the walls. Probably have to break them off cats, chickens, or anything else you dont want dead. Mine has been a pretty good dog and shes in the house with my 1 and 3yr old kids at night. I would be watchful with terriers around kids, but she was 9 when my first was born and I had a good handle on her at that point. Mine is smart and a bit stubborn by times. Definitely bred well for what they are designed to do.
