Looking forward to range time tomorrow. Going to fire some antique rifles.

A 1917 Springfield and 1898 Springfield 30-40 Krag.

Looks like you are going to have an enjoyable time. Two classics I have never had the opportunity to shoot.

Ummm.....that's a 1917 U.S. Enfield made by several makers but not Springfield.

You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t make a big deal out of it.

I still think the 30-06 should be the go to caliber for LE and Military use. I dont want to wing em, I want em stone dead where they were pierced. 223 will work but dang shooting someone 3,4,5 times. In combat or in LE you dont always have the best angle at the appropriate time.

Wasn't a big deal, just thought maybe the rest of the population would benefit from fact. Carry on.
Might want to check on the poor heat treating on this model before you go to the range. Again just trying to help.

Many thousands were built for WW1. Original design was for the British govt in .303. Upon our entry into the war these assembly lines were switched to our caliber. Made by Remington, Winchester, and Eddystone.

That was the 1903 Springfields.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I will ask him if he is aware of that issue, however he has afforded me the opportunity to shoot a lot of firearms that I wouldn’t have and I don’t believe he would put me in danger.

Lots of Wildcats built on the Enfield in the day, I have one made by remington.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Yes, early low number Spring fields are the poster boy for improper heat treating. But many 1917 Enfields were re- barreled for Ww2 and developed hairline cracks in the process. Vast majority with original barrels are safe. Indeed many were sporterized into belted magnums. But a few are problamatic.
Also the Krag in original post only has one locking lug and a few of them have hairline cracks.
Interesting that both these designs were originally foreign designs.

Good luck on the range tomorrow and I will expect to see some targets.
