While muskrat trapping would be the logical time to allow you to keep one.

I told the warden we should all be able to buy a couple otter tags and use them anytime in the trapping seasons. He did say something about the season might become longer.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Got a really big male today at an old beaver bank hole. ( I also caught a beaver and a muskrat here in December ). The water in the cove is pretty much froze over, but on Saturday, I opened up two bank holes with my 60 volt Dewalt saw. Looks like he came across the ice to get into the hole. Otters will den up in old holes, but they also will stop and check out any holes they encounter in their travels ( looking for a rat , mink or beaver ). I’ve been out to check this spot a half dozen times since the big freeze up, always find tracks there.

Water was deep enough to get a 330 submerged, triggers up, and tied off good with a 1/8 inch cable. I put some homemade lure at the crest of the hole.

Weighed 23.85 pounds. Ended up using a 6 foot adjustable coyote board. I have an otter board, but it didn’t seem wide enough for this one. Boarded at 61” inches.

Congratulations Bigbrownie. Does the game commission come and get your carcasses? They came and got the one I caught. Me and the lady were at work and they were real pushy about getting it. Showed up when no1 was home. They just could have waited a couple hours until one of us got off work.

I’ve tagged three in the three prior seasons. Never heard anything from them. A few years ago, it was stated in the regs digest that the PGC might want some carcasses. They’ve since removed that from the digest. Mine is laying up in my carcass pile. But nothing will ever eat it.
