My ranger sitting in the driveway needs a starter. Normally I can get it going on my own but just this year I needed help with a push at Kroger and Rural King to think of a couple. I get some funny looks though, its not like you see someone pushing their car and jumping in it in a lot of parking lot these days. Yeah wolfie if your car dies you can down shift into say second gear and pop the clutch and she should take off again... same concept... you don't need to stop and use the key/starter to get it turning again. The key needs to be on to have fire though. https://youtu.be/E71ZPs8KVTk?si=DYoj6rUHoc2pPrwP

Can't beat a standard for offroad/trapping stuff. You can still get one but have to order it if buying new. Some models its not even offered. World is full of people who can't drive a standard. Semis with autos are pretty common now. I would not take a truck driving job if the truck had an automatic.
Had no clue there were people who were unaware you could push start standard . I guess when trapping some remote place you could carry a spare battery.

Haha, weird, me & Freeze were just talking about this a few days ago. Does this still work on new vehicles with all the electronics? Standard is a great theft deterrent!

Did that a lot as a kid. Had to pay attention to where you parked.

I was talking with someone who is roughly 40yo.
He had never heard of pop starting a car with a stick shift by pushing it , jumping in and popping the clutch. The look of disbelief that you could start a car with a completely dead battery. He had never heard of starting a car that way.
I have done this countless times and pushed cars for friends to get them started.
With the average age on here , I bet A LOT of the people on here have done this.
Reply to this post if you know this skill , please. Would be interesting what percentage we have as a group. I remember those days. Had a buddy whose 49 Ford had a dead battery. We would push him, he'd turn on the key and pop the clutch and it would start. He didn't have the money to buy a battery. We got tired of this, so we all chipped in and he got a cheap used battery from a garage.
