Working on cleaning out the freezers for the cow coming in a few months. Have a beef tongue taking up space i need to eat and have never prepared one.

What's the process to prep and how do you cook it.

Wash, boil whole until it's tender with salt, bay leaf and a bit of whole black pepper. When it's cooked, peel the skin and optionally remove the gooey tissue on the underside. It's perfect chilled and sliced, on sandwiches or just as is. Goes well with cream hoseradish or mustard.

Diane cooked two beef tongues like that last year, that we had in the freezer for a long time. They were surprisingly good. Neither of us had eaten tongue before. I wouldn't hesitate to eat it again.

The licker is good meat. I pressure cook it with the celery, onion, and carrot trinity. Peel the skin and trim whatever looks like needs trimmed. We eat it with good ground horseradish, carrots, and mashed potatoes.
Moose nose tastes very similar to the tongue, but you have to boil the snot out of it.

I cut it in 3 pieces , put in a pot with a head of garlic ,an onion ,some Mexican oregano ,salt , one hot dried pepper and fill with water to cover

simmer about 2 hours test with a fork , if the fork slides in with little resistance pull your meat out and make a shallow cut while still hot and peel the skin off

then I cube the meat after skinned and return to the broth

that broth is terrific you can so have tongue tacos with the meat or serve the broth over noodles like a soup , both are great

you can pick the direction you want to go with your final seasoning can sort of go Asian like a pho or ramen or tacos or some other direction

the broth is very rich

Tongue is very tasty table fare. I eat it every chance I get. It is very easy to prepare. I wash and drain it well. Place in crock pot with some beef broth and your choice of veggies and seasonings. The rough skin will come off easily once cooked. Don't remember how long I cooked ours. Doesnt take long. I enjoyed ours for several days. Many turn their nose up to it. However it is excellent eating.

I like. Served cold and sliced.

Im sure it would but my confidence in geting trustworthy information here far exceeds Google. Google will give info but a computer I dont trust to know if its good using that method. When fls say this is good and how thy prefer to prepare something. Im taking their word for it.

Comes out great cooked in a smoker too. Served cold, sliced on a samich with horseradish, spicy mustard and swish cheese. Buffalo tongue was considered a delicacy, often they were killed just for the tongue. Have had it several times and it beats cow tongue.

Lots of Mexican recipes use tongue. Prepare as Tatiana said, cube it small and make it into just about anything.
Its delicious.

I have boiled them peeled outer skin sliced into small pieces, then pickled it like a deer heart. Shot a moose in Maine in 2015 , prepared the tongue that way. Goes great with crackers and your favorite beer.
