Congrats! 2 great birds.
No story of the hunts? I gotta have something to tide me over until we open in 2 weeks.
We were hunting separately on two different properties about 8 miles apart along same river bottom.
For me, the first morning's setup was at a grassy logging road intersection. 4 or 5 gobblers (some were obvious jakes by their gobbles) sounding off in different directions and distances, but none seemed to be working towards me. About an hour in, one gobbled about 200 yds down the road and was closing the distance...gobbling along the way to my soft calling. He strutted by me at 15yds thru the brush...spitting & drumming....as he was eyeing the AvianX jake and hen decoys....which were 20 yds in front of me. When he cleared into the opening...nite/nite termite!
Second morning...setup at half acre food plot waiting on gobbling to start to see where I needed to be. An owl sounded off nearby and the gobbler rattled the woods from a tree about 300 yds away at the back of a clearcut. Only problem was I almost caught in the open. I scrambled to minimal cover. He continued gobbling at everything, including me and I was expecting him to pitch out any minute, but he didn't. I figured I had screwed up and he could see me, but decided to wait him out. I finally saw him thru binos strutting on a limb in a large pine. He gobbled dozens of times from daybreak to 0920. To shorten this story...a hen walked thru the edge of the plot at 0915. The gobbler pitched out and glided to the plot and went towards where I last saw that hen and went outta sight. I called very softly...couple clucks and light yelps. He gobbled and re-appeared in plot and strutted thru center of plot up to the AvianXs. Shot him at 35 yds. He was only bird I heard this morning.
Clay can post his two hunt stories when he sees this post.
