Your thoughts on these two traps for fox and coon. I would put wild river pans on the 1.65.

For just fox and coon, id go 450. Already has a wide jaw face and P.I.T. pan from the factory, pretty much pull out of the box and set

Both are excellent for fox and coon,MB will be more $$$ but it's a much better built footholds.Higher theft area 1.65's.

Go with the MB. I am not a fan of putting on a non factory pan on a trap.

I've never used either specifically, but from my experience with the brands, the MB is a much higher quality trap. Another benefit is that the MB's come out of the box ready to go. No pan adjustment needed 98% of the time. And the thicker jaw face provides better holding power, especially with the coon.

MB 450, I don't think you will be needing the increased jaw size of the 1.65 and definitely not an oversized pan.

For just fox and coon, I'd look at the Duke Pro Series 450 - Half Offset also a well built trap. Created for the fox live trap market.

That was the next question. What jaw type, there are a lot of coyote out here so I was thinking 1/2 off set

With a 1/2" offset you will lose all your coon. Or did you mean buy half of them offset? I would personally just use the stock pan if using a 1.65. I have taken coyotes by both front feet in stock 1.65 bridgers.

450 is a kick (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) coon trap.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I assume by half offset you mean one offset jaw and one closed jaw so it is only half the width of the offset.

Closed jaw is my preference for coon.
I don’t even like offsets in my coyote and cat arsenal for this same reason. We have a jillion coon here and decent quality coon too if you hit them after December 1st when they are at their best here up until about end of December. I’ll take any coon I get on my predator line. They help pay for gas and not hard to put up a bunch of them.
I have several mb 450s. I didn’t intend to buy them they came as part of other bulk trap purchases from other trappers. But the more I set them the more I’ve been impressed with that little trap. I own and run several fully modified Bridger 1.65s too. Same thing, I didn’t intend to buy them but they came along with other traps I was already buying too.
Both good traps. The mb 450 has held every single coyote that ventured into them no problem and no reworking anything on that trap after the catch either. I’ve had to tweak a few dogs and pans on the 1.65s after coyote catches. Coyotes are just plain hard on equipment and will show you the weak links in your equipment over time. The mb450 holds coon very well and it hasn’t mattered in my experience if front foot or back foot catches either. It’s a stout well built trap. I can’t speak for Fox we have few here and I get what I get. I will stand behind the 450 for coon or anything else that ventures into one.

Yes on that

But that answered my question. Thanks for the help.

What is the point of a half offset? What is it, about an eighth of an inch or less?
